The middle aged lady uniform of a flowery/patterned mumsy dress and cardi

O GOD I AM WEARING THIS

was sitting at breakfast looking around thinking huh the men are all so smart and the women all look like their holiday cover nannies and then I paused to consider my own flaws and ooft

Going to have to make effort

God but it's so much effort

literally just put on chinos / shirt / blue jacket combo as i have a casual work event later and this feels like dressing down!  My workplace is fairly formal.  I will be wearing a suit and tie tomorrow.

I stick to above the knee. Today I'm in a miniskirt, but opaque tights as a nod towards professionalism. I'm really tall so its probably knee length on more normal folk.

I'm in tech, the rest of the room will be men in jeans and trainers. Wear what you feel confident in.

I think mini is fine until c.40 and then after that you either go longer or accept a certain number of young men mistaking you for age appropriate from behind then coming to the front and swooning with horror at their mistake. Or, as my friend's mum puts it, the Don't Look Now effect.

I haven’t dressed yet. I am in fat face pyjamas and a white company robe with a hood which is up as a bit cold. About to do some yoga.  Less is more as you get older I think.

What do the centrist dads wear on their feet? I am having this dilemma as a new pair of (Charles Tyrwhitt) chinos don't look right with my euro issue/slightly hipster smart trainers.

I've paired my m&s dark stone chinos with some slightly paint spattered grey skechers. Heading to the post office soon, will be fighting them off with a shitty stick.

Zara for my new black ones, m and s for a subtle charcoal grey / black houndstooth and my others are navy from banana republic in about 2014 but they still look brand new and the fit is amazing

I have a strict colour palate of monochrome only really and that keeps it fresh / classic and grey corporate sales woman enough for me to not get in a pickle

I personally like trousers in a Prince of Wales check.

My current fave pair of trousers are from Bennetton - super comfy and slimming.  I wish that I had bought more than one pair.

Clerg- define Mumsy Dresses - do you mean maxi dresses? What waistage?

For dresses/ work I'm still doing skater dresses/ shift dressed with tights and heels, same as I wore 15 years ago. In my 20s/ 30s I did years of black bootcut trousers and high heeled boots and a fitted jumper for work as none of the chains did clothes small enough to fit. Then I embraced fitted dresses/ short skirts and it's so much easier.

The kilt/ black tights/ nice heels and a fitted top/ jumper look for winter never goes out of fashion IMO and this is my MO for the next few months!

the young birds round here (and a few milfs) all seem to be wearing very high waisted “spray on look” black yoga pants - when did cameltoe get so fashionable?

I wear Chelsea boots with my chinos.

FYI - 40 plus is totally age appropriate for a lot of young men.  If the young bucks in my office are anything to go by.

I wear Chelsea boots with my chinos.

That takes me back.. saw a guy get a knife through his foot once in school and his biggest concern was that his Chelsea boots cost £200 and now had a hole in them.

I don’t do floral. Im too old to carry it off. Judy’s outfit sounds great as do cigarette pants or kilts. Sadly still got my steroid weight so as I’m tall I definitely look for slimming shades. And I’ve got cottage cheese in the fridge. You can tell when I grew up!

Sorry mm was just trying to find a link to my present garb

Basically most frocks I would say at the mo

I am not saying no one could carry it off but no one in that room was carrying it off

I don't have any on my current circulation other than skinny jeans. Can't bring myself to go back to boot cuts! Also don't do the super wide baggy ones that the kids are wearing with their biker boots..

Florals are for summer only. Winter  Smart casual I am opting for uniform very simple and good quality. Good shoes or boots which make my legs look long, well not short, dark knee length pencil skirt or A line. White t shirt, shirt or thin jumper. Decent coat or Mac. Good bag/back pack. That’s it.

For the gents in chinos who have strayed onto the thread, you may find this helpful.

" .. The total inventory of Gainsbourg’s wardrobe could fit in a small suitcase: five shirts, a few T-shirts, slashed to be worn underneath a blazer so he might look bare-chested, one perfecto biker’s jacket, one peacoat, and 20 pairs of the aforementioned “Zizi” shoes."

No trousers, evidently.

I read last night that Peplum is Back In. I took my old Peplum thigns to a charity shop as they were old but I'm going to restocl as I LOVE Peplum tops with skinny jeans! I'll also be hunting down a scarlett dress ready for party season.

BTW It's MM - decided I needed a rebrand and the spinster connotations of the name were attacking my karma and conflicting with my manifestations!

All the milfs in my endz have only two looks: 1. Yoga pants [....] horrific

You wash your filthy fvcking mouth out.  Whoever invented yoga pants should be canonised.

40s are really not too old for miniskirts, you just need better legs.

Today I'm in a minidress which is woollen and vintage 60s. WFH so only I get to appreciate it, and leggings under for warmth, but still.
