Labour Put down no confidence in TMPM

What happens now?

Clargha, what do you think? She has managed to piss off every MP, across all parties in respect of negotiating a "deal" which suits none of them, that take some effort. As the clock is ticking , every second counts literally, and she should table the vote this week so as to not lose more time.

The EU told her several weeks ago, there was no further negotiations of any description, and so they have proven to be correct. So she has wasted more weeks dilly dallying and achived nothing whatsoever, at all.

''She said she had won fresh guarantees at last week's EU summit over measures to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland and hoped to secure additional "political and legal assurances" in the coming weeks.

FFS she went to Brussels to plead with them and they literally removed the wording about giving assurances to the UK about the temporary nature of the backstop.

Thought they'd bottled it again on the basis that all Tory MP's and the DUP have said they'll vote against it?

Despite the summit last week there have been leaks that further concession are available to get the deal ratified as it is the fastest way to give everyone certainty.  Assume some token codicil will be produced after the Christmas holiday and Mogg and co will fall in line and job done.

I love the way TMPM stalked out of the Chamber. She should have flipped Corbyn the V as she did it

I don't think it is that Corbyn is too cowardly, he just doesn't have the numbers to succeed.

I wish I could believe that Queenie.  However, which ever way I look at, it it suits Corbyn (who is a brexiteer at heart) for the deal to go through (or indeed a no deal) and the Tories get the blame.  It means he can enter another election without having to alienate large numbers of his voters by taking a firm position. He cares much more about establishing a socialist government than the European question.

well, yes Guy but my point was, it's not 'cowardly' as 3-bikes said, but has no chance of succeeding despite this shitshow of a government so I expect this was his way of trying to appease those repeatedly calling for a no-confidence vote

I agree it ridiculous to talk of "cowardice" this is all about parliamentary tactics - same with May's delay of the main vote.  Cowardice is a word massively overused - see also its use regarding terrorists who are many heinous things but not cowards.

He pretty much has said that hasn't he?  He has said they will call a motion of no confidence in the government when he thinks they can win.  Given ERG and DUP says they will back the government he cannot win.   (Although for reasons above I think this actually quite suits him)

well I think the word cowardice is misplaced but I agree he would have been better sticking to the line that he cannot win a confidence vote - but politics is all about keeping lots of people happy - may be he needed this to avoid an internal revolt - no great cost.
