I hate to say Clergs was right

but the Tory Government is careening into extreme authoritarianism and needs to be stopped

they have just sneaked an amendment into the Data Protection and Digital Information bill to allow the government to inspect the bank accounts of anyone receiving a benefit (pensions count as benefits for this btw)

(and even the most hardened tory meatshield must be able to see that the countdown has now begun for this power being extended to 'anyone who gets a tax rebate')

They didn't sneak it in it was openly discussed.

And it's far from the only extreme encroachment on civil liberties and privacy in that legislation

And nobody wanted to talk about it because the legal profession doesn't want to seem "right wing" by question government overreach.

They've got a lot of that information already as these days my accountant is able to get details of all my dividends and everything else for my tax return without me needing me to provide the information...
