Have just booked hotels in nice northern Spanish city for a weekend. 70 quid a night for decent room in centre of town. Asia still cheap as chips. London and Americas expensive.
not sure why the right price should be - but £300 after the vat is taken into account is £250. cleaning / laundry / insurance / security / business rates / west and tear / marketing / commission/ owner profit / manager franchise fee / consumables
ive always been surprised that a hotel can make any money somewhere like London without charging at least £200.
Even when we stay 1 or 2 nights away, we always now try to go the Airbnb route, or Vrbo for holidays.
Cost about the same, your own gaff, and usually much more comfortable.
Last hotel we stayed in was a Premier Inn in Bristol. The air con wasn’t working last broiling July. To be fair to them they did give us the full 100% refund when I complained.
I would have preferred a good nights sleep though TBH.
Oh but forrins will always flock to Blighty to spend their filthy forrin cash on Buck House and Fortnums because we’re better, huzzah! Put up their room rates!
I used to sometimes treat myself by staying at the Hilton London Bankside when in town. Work pays £150 pn and I was happy to make it up to the usual £190. However, now it’s just not available for less than £300! I end up staying at the RSM for a more modest £160 or so but I used to be able to get in there for £110 so even that’s more.

Hotels in Germany also noticeably more expensive than 4 years ago. Schade.

It's fooking annoying. Even eastern europe is £££. It's fooking china and the US opening up again and having endless cash to spare.

Isn’t it more people wfh post covid, and hotels therefore having less rooms being booked to cover the same, inflation adjusted, fixed cost base?

Premier Inns (my usual go to for staying in towns in this country, comfortable and adequate for my needs) seem to have gone up by 50% or so.

yeah they are ridiculous
I don't understand how it's working for them in places where there are much nicer options that are now not much more expensive

I guess a lot of employers like "premier inn" on the expenses because it looks humble even if it's costing more than the radisson

I stayed at a Marriott in NYC when I went back in August and it was pretty reasonable--under $300 a night.

Do you have to provide a locking door? How do they get round the HMO rules? Fire regs??

Parsnip places like Premier Inn have cost savings down to a fine art the cost of providing a room will be far less than you imagine.

HMO rules only apply if the occupiers are living there as a main residence.

What you need to do is to lead Guy on a little and a night at the Savoy once a year is on him.

Heh. I thought he didn’t actually go for the Savoy as it was too expensive even for his FWB.
