Heart surgery now at 7 am tomorrow morning

I have been pre-op'd with all the joyous news that I will be in intensive care for 2 days and then I won't be discharged until I can show that I can walk up and down the ward unaided and can dress myself unaided.  Having never been debilitated before, this is disconcerting.  I am not old.  I just have a heart problem that can't be fixed with drugs.  Thanks to those who have wished me well.

Best of luck, OG, even though I don't 'know' you.

One should be grateful for their health, which a stellar career (I don't think I've ever had a career full stop) with money in the bank (not in my case) can't buy.

I hope it went well, OG, and that you're currently resting, and that you'll come out of this all fixed, and able to get on with the rest of your life without having to worry.

For those who are interested.  Nearly 5 weeks on with a new heart valve.  Yes, it was just a bit painful.  But, recovery is imminent.  Immediate benefits are breathing is instantly better; my lungs fill with oxygen on first attempt instead of struggling.  Dizziness has gone forever.

I am walking further and for longer.  Stairs are still a challenge.

Onwards and upwards!

my lungs fill with oxygen on first attempt

That is rather insensitive given what happened to the submersive.

Just kidding--congrats and wishing you a speedy (rest of the) recovery.

Glad to hear you’re doing well Grumpy. My dad went in for major heart surgery around the time you did, it’s scary! Happy to hear you’re making a good recovery.

Yay, that’s great news. I’ve been thinking of you since your post, and looking out for an update. Happy to see it all went well. How marvellous to feel instant benefits too. Hope the recovery continues.

Thank you, all.  I do actually appreciate it from you normally cold and don't give a shit people that I recognise and know you are.  Snivel ...

Thanks.  I will live.
