Hackney Diamonds

a lot of Jagger swagger, a pretty good album.

Best played load

Dunno what the missus is doing collaborating with those old farts tbh

But fair play. More interested to see her performance in Joker 2.

A billboard on the tube this week tells me this is the best Rolling Stones album since 1978 which kind of reminds me of the way every new Bowie album from about 1993 was acclaimed as the best since Scary Monsters and Super Creeps (maybe Let's Dance at a push but it was divisive for purists ofc) ... The base reference is always the end point of a period where a new album by said artist is considered relevant

I wouldn't think it is the best (I always preferred Tattoo You then the other albums) but it is remarkable what the Stones have achieven give their age. If I ever get to Mick's age I doubt I'll have his vigorous vitality as him. But then again sex, money and vitamin cocktails (aka whatever he takes to keep himself going) do wonders.

I like Keith Richards. Jagger must lie constantly and appears quite pretentious. He is supposed to have a “great sense of humour” I can’t imagine how good it needs to be to make up for the rest. I saw them live in Lisbon in around 1990. They were rubbish then.

They’ve been shit for 50 years. Before then they were great. But they’ve ennobled generations, freed them from work, nepo dynasties. Robert Johnson says hi.

They're like the band equivalent of The Simpsons

A rabid fanbase who only really give a toss about the first decade or so of many in terms of original output

Some people love Start Me Up of course, relatively recent from 1981. It reminds me of the Windows 95 launch party with all the Microsoft execs dancing like David Brent

It’s all so effing repetitive. Rock music. The blues somehow allows variation within a rigid structure. But rock music evolved without evolving. But if this is your bag then dive in. Just don’t die without hearing John Coltrane. Or maybe do. It would confuse the fvkc out of the priest.
