Which god octoman? The elephant one, the one with the hammer, the fat one that sits and smiles, the wrathful one that smites, the one that is actually three things or one of the other options? I can't vote until I know.
Cosmological argument is basically stoner bollocks.
People invent gods as a comfort blanket for things they don't understand. The more we have understood about the universe, the less is attributable to a divine being. Eventually so little will be left unexplained that there will be nothing left for a sky fairy to have done and only a few cranks and the insane will still have faith. Some say we are already there.
Oh I dunno about that RR, I feel that the more we learn about the universe, the more we realise there is so much we don’t actually know. We’re inhabiting a minuscule part of it, so tiny as so render us irrelevant. I feel there’s something major happening beyond it all that can’t just be explained away by “sky fairy” or whatever.
“Oh but if you’re god and all that why would you have made a typo like ‘go in about it’” - well I work in mysterious ways and I like to lay traps for infidels so that I can smoke them on judgment day on account of their lack of faith
I love how god people are all "you can't be certain" . Fück you, your lot spent millennia being certain about all sorts of stupid shit. Jebus done miracles, Allah gonna give you virgins if you believe hard, the sun is god dude.
All certainly bollocks.
If you want to wave around vague mystical stuff that has no counterfactual then I've got some healing crystals to sell you. Otherwise bring the proof or step off.
"In the clear air, the stars drilled down out of the sky, reminding any thoughtful watcher that it is in the deserts and high places that religions are generated. When men see nothing but bottomless infinity over their heads they have always had a driving and desperate urge to find someone to put in the way"
Belief in the existence of a god is then used to excuse bad or controlling behaviour and lazy discriminatory beliefs.
Yes agreed and the woo hand waving followed by over simplified solutions does real world harm.
Exam question: Why do some people turn out to be rapists, murderers, nonces and the like?
Religious types: Oh the devil dun did get up in their soul, if only they had praised the lord a bit more.
Non religious types: We have studied this and actually childhood trauma is a major factor and if we improve our safeguarding measures and provide treatment when we find the symptoms we can reduc...
Religious types: We should execute them in the name of our lord Jebus Christ. Let us pray.

RTFQ. It says "There is a God", so if you think there is one - any one - you can answer.

If there is one and you say no and it turns out that they did exist after all, would they forgive me for not believing?

(d) never given it much thought

Yep the argument from causation/cosmological has always resonated with me too.

Even if you don’t your life is religious in more ways than you think because that is the way society is organised

You can feel anything you like, but there is no god and never was. Feelings won't change that.

I'm with Nick Cave on this one: I don't believe in an interventionist god.

I am god, don’t like to mention it though, people think I’m big headed if I go in about it too much.

Oi Hotnow - do one.
Only room for one God on Rof and the position is filled.

Was that pascal's wager octoman?
I like this one:

When men see nothing but bottomless infinity over their heads they have always had a driving and desperate urge to find someone to put in the way"

why is it so hard to accept that there are things that humankind does not (yet) understand?
oh the universe is so big therefore there is a god - I just do not get the logic. It's the same comfort blanket that RR referred to.
Belief in the existence of a god is then used to excuse bad or controlling behaviour and lazy discriminatory beliefs.

I don’t know if God exists, but having listened to a fervent atheist expound at length on the subject I can confirm that hell exists.
