What I really don't understand about Tory party internal politics is this - how have the hard Brexit headbanger lobby ever held any sway over May? How many of them are there? It seems to me that there aren't anything like enough of them to sway anything - what are there, 20 or 25 of them, 30 absolute max? Why didn't May just tell them to piss off, this is her show, and seek cross party compromise (to be endorsed by a second referendum) right from the start?
I think the hidden story of the Brexit process has been the sheer number of Tory MPs who are voting her plan down because they're Remainers.

Don't think anyone is listening to the ERG fruitcakes any more - they have drained their own power with their refusal to compromise.
