1) this is a bit confusing, I thought the fen trotters had risen up like hereward

2) why do rioters always seem to have  fireworks handy

They were of course "the life and soul of the party" too, loved their nans, and I can see from the pictures discovered of them, were stalwarts of the community.

Possibly a bit naughty (not to say potentially inflammatory) of the media to say the police van was ‘following’ the bike based on a 3 second CCTV clip (or to say it was ‘chasing’ them). The van could have been heading to an incident or following someone else and the bike just happened to be or pass in front of it?

If so, what were the police supposed to do? Ignore the norty scallies who were being a danger to themselves (as demonstrated by subsequent events) and others?

If so, what were the police supposed to do?

1. Not lie and cover up their involvement. Their initial story that they briefed to the media unraveled fast. This seems to be a worryingly regular occurrence.

2. Refer themselves to the IOPC for an independent investigation.

The whole riot is difficult to understand, what caused it? What actually happened during?

Without sounding like an alt right anti-vaccer, there seems to be little info on BBC and others

I wondered about this too. Where do you get fireworks in May in time to participate in a riot that is just kicking off? It's a mystery.

What Coracle Lolling said.

At this point, the only conclusion is that the police forces in this country are full of low IQ people.  It's one thing to lie - it's another to lie when it's fairly obvious that they're going to get caught out in the lie.

Alternatively, you might conclude that the culture of knee-jerk cover-ups whenever there is potential blame is caused by the politicians who control the police. Culture comes from the top. If you knew your ultimate boss would scapegoat you whenever it was politically expedient, you’d probably cover things up too.

I wonder if they just fired rockets or used a party pack assortment.

I reckon a catherine wheel rolled along the floor or frisbeed sideways woukd be pretty effective against the plod shield wall

This is the sort of thing that erodes trust in the police (a commodity which they are already short of)

The police got caught out this time but one wonders how many times they have done something similar (innocuously or not) before this happened

There was clearly a 'follow' - it does not appear to be a 'chase' or 'pursuit'.

2 of the local kids on a non-road legal e bike.  I wonder if they were known for drugs and violence!?  And, if they were, how long do you think it will have been before one of them stabbed someone or got stabbed?

Tbf to the plods it doesn't look like a proper chase and unlikely to have been called in (just a police van spying illegal activity and deciding to check it out (as they should)). Police obvs could have done a better job communicating this (i.e. saying no record of a pursuit and investigations are ongoing) but it hardly sounds like a cover up. From the hysteria you would think police had purposely knocked them off the bike during some reckless chase and then scarpered.

Bit of cannabis aged 14 at the school gates leads to casual dealing at parties leads to running harder stuff for a County Line leads to fighting with knives and machetes by the time they are late teens early 20s.

It ends with someone in the morgue and a few other people going down for 15-20 yeas.

The next generation are then 'recruited' and the cycle repeats itself.

I am no knee jerk defender of the plod but I think the media have fvcked up with this to be honest.  It doesn't sound like the police were involved at all in the actual crash. The heavy suggestions they were are pretty irresponsible.

EP - Can I just say, with the greatest of respect. Fvck off you absolute khunt. Two children, about whom you know absolutely nothing, died. Have a fvcking shred of human decency about it eh?
