Now got visions of people elephant hunting in a back garden in suburban Guildford which has made me chuckle.

It's rather like the difference between killing sheep bred to be killed and killing wild sheep.  Very easy to decimate the small population of wild sheep these days but by farming sheep we remove much of the reason for killing wild sheep.
