These three have been great. Obvs bringing back DT was RTD’s way of glossing over the last what 5 seasons of crap and teeing up to go full woke with the new guy. We didn’t need Bonnie Langford. Nicola Bryant please.
Christmas special will get massive viewing figures. I assume next season not til autumn. Ratings will start ok, get a lot worse. New guy will be highly charismatic but really piss off core viewers. RTD will leave within a year, two max. Via more DT stories.
I get the same vibes I got for Peter Capaldi - lots of initial excitement from some (he was great in the Thick of It) but no real connection.
Tbf it all comes down to the scripts though - no doctor stands a chance if the writing is shit. I think both DT and MS had the best luck that way? Jodie was probably worst served as I think she could have been a lot better doctor than the scripts allowed.
I will admit though that I was initially very sceptical of Matt Smith for a long time but he’s now my second fave after DT. Unfortunately I suspect they may push the preachy aspect too far and, as you say, alienate those who just want to be entertained. It smacks of the old He-Man/Jerry Springer style “what have we learnt today” television. (Perhaps they could do that? At the end of every episode, DT and Donna sit down and address the audience about whatever theme they are trying to promote? Would be about as subtle as their current efforts)
I will give it a good chance but am concerned you will be proven right.

Thought the toymaker was excellent - very much hope that his defeat is flawed somehow other wise it was far too easy.
Not such a fan of the end of this one though.
