I am a shades of grey character (and am happy with this) but there seem to be plenty on here who are very black/white types. Do you recognise this in yourself and are you happy in your certainty?
Very much grey in most respects. I was much more black and white in my younger days but life teaches you that entrenchment does not fit many scenarios. There are almost always too many layers at play.
Despite what some may think on here (based on my posting on Israel/Palestine) I am a shades of grey person (probably to a fault and it impedes my ability to have convinction even where it would be advantageous).
PS is of course correct (in both the second and third sentences of his post) but social media and the need to cater to diminishing attention spans play a huge role in the perception that there's more black & white thinkers.
Aren't most lawyers shades of grey people? We're trained to see different sides of the argument. Sometimes I see so many different sides of the argument that I disappear up my own backside (figuratively speaking).
Shades of grey where they are relevant but some things are just objectively clear such as the insanity of anyone who has recently invested in small scale farming in this country.
Everything nowadays is polarised, and RoF is no different. Hence why otherwise sensible people are so in awe of the dreadful Vorderman, simply because she is on the "right side".
I think Chuffy must have it for many of those above who claim to be “shades of grey” types as some of you definitely don’t come across that way on here.
Grey, I watched an interview with one of the Dunning Kruger guys recently and learned that their research finds, the more you think you know, the more incompetent you become (similar to, people get promoted to their level of incompetence).
Or, George Benson on being good at guitar said, "yesterday I was certain I knew it all, today I realise I know nothing"

Shades of grey of course apart from social media where I take ludicrously extreme and unyielding views on everything to generate clicks and likes.

black and white thinking isn’t thinking

Generally, shades of grey.
There are of course rare situations where things are objectively black and white, where shades of grey become counterproductive.

As a very senior law firm partner told me once when I was being a bit too black and white 'You are right, but the devil will be in the detail'.

Certain matters of principle I am black and white.
Most other things, including the application of those principles by and to humans, shades of grey.
Nuance in human affairs is always tricky, applying absolutes is a cop-out for weak thinkers.

I could never find out what was wrong with me.
Perhaps I'll die agnostic.
