corbynite magic money tree

Surely though like any form of lending there must come a point where people look at the finances of the country and start to demand higher interest rates before ultimately deciding it all looks a bit perilous and they're better off lending to someone else?

I loved it on the Today programme this morning when someone was yakking on about this £58 billion pension thing and how it had to be paid as these women had ‘suddenly had the rug pulled from under their feet’.

Suddenly apparently now meaning the early 90s

"I loved it on the Today programme this morning when someone was yakking on about this £58 billion pension thing and how it had to be paid as these women had ‘suddenly had the rug pulled from under their feet’."

When the main basis of one's claim is "I'm thick and lazy and paid no attention to any reporting on this at the time or the next 20 years" one grasps at straws.  The boomers have to be the greediest, most grasping generation in history - the sooner they die before impoverising the rest of us, the better.  This bribe will swing the election because "free money".

power girl is hawt. imaginary women are hawter than real ones.

Is writing odd tuition fee debt in this year’s manifesto? I liked that.

Give everyone a bit of free munny, that’s the way to win. Funny how tory tax breaks for biz-niss and private equity are never described thus, mind.

No Laz.  Labour have ditched the writing off of student debt in favour of giving rich old women £58bn.

I’m sure you’ll find a way to opine that’s a great thing and fully align with your views in your previous post.

”Can I shock you?  I like wine”

I don’t see it as a choice between these policies tbh. I’d do both.

If they’ve made a calculus as between the two, it’s probably that: young people mostly vote labour anyway and a lot of the student debt will never need repaying anyway because of the income thresholds.

As a reminder, I am neither a member nor generally a supporter of the Labour party. Definitely likelier to vote for them than for the Tories tho!

people facing an impoverished end to their working lives are certainly a constituency amenable to free money policies

they also often vote for other parties

they are probably a key group in many marginal seats

as a reminder, it is incongruous how tax breaks for capitalists, high earners and biz-niss are never described as free munny bribes

As a reminder, Laz you have posted here that you have voted for Labour in every election you have voted and it is the only sensible thing to do in any given election.

But as you’ve also said you would be an Olympic cyclist, Labour frontbencher and Queen’s Counsel maybe on your own account we should take almost all of what you say with a large tanker’s worth of salt.

It was an ill thought through knee jerk attempt to win a couple of million extra votes that will likely backfire - see my thread on politicians stupidity below.

It would certainly be a good idea to take most of what I say on here with a pinch of salt, yes. I’m pleased we’ve made this breakthrough
