Channel 4 Rugby Coverage

Just watching the game I recorded on Saturday.  Honestly almost an hour of chat before kick-off?  Yes two anthems for Ireland and Hakka doesn’t help but it’s still excessive.

Channel 4 have always been good at arcane sports. They used to show the Superbowl long before it was popular. And I used to love the Sumo wrestling. Think they showed kabbadhi (sp?) too.

If you have watched any sport on television in the last 20 years (other than sailing; that's not a sport) you will know that this is standard build-up.

You are going to make the most godawful grumpy old man when you get older.

The C4 coverage of the Ireland v All Blacks game was rubbish... ...and this is coming from someone who thinks Stephen Ferris is a rugby god.

Luckily the match was a cracker... ...don't think my arse left the edge of the sofa for the whole 80 minutes.

Stix the BBC keeps it down to half an hour including anthems, etc. and less during the Six Nations when they have ten minutes to analyse the game that just finished and build up the one that is about to start.

Ray thankfully none of that.

Sailing coverage if a different kettle of fish.  Had happy hours listening to the two old blokes on Cowes Radio having to fill for six hours because racing had been postponed due to lack of wind.  Can you imagine if they told John Inverdale the start of the match was going to be delayed for four hours and that he’d have to fill that time?

Heh.

I like boats and I like sailing but, Christ on a fooking electric moped, surely given six hours you could find something better to do than listen to two coffin dodgers blathering on about whether the Kiwis had infringed the rules in a race in 1967.

Buzz I was massively hungover and lying in the sun with the radio in the background waiting to see if there would be a race.  They don't get into anything technical like that but instead discuss the large red ship currently going through the starting area and other complete nonsense whilst occasionally breaking into song and are actually quite amusing.  Sadly one died recently and the coverage these days just isn't the same.

This is such a non-point.

Just tune-in when you're ready if it's that offensive?

Or given you recorded it go through the laborious task of pressing fast forward for 30 seconds?

I did joffz but even at x30 fast forward it takes two minutes to get through the preamble.  They were in danger of missing the end of the game with their broadcast as they'd allowed three hours and spent an hour talking leaving two hours for a game that takes a minimum of an hour and half without stoppages and only ten minutes for half time.

The Ireland v NZ game was amazing.  My only problem with Channel 4 showing it is that since Ch 4 had a strop with Freesat there is no Ch 4 HD.  SD looks crap in comparison.
