Trufax but I've been bullfighting, as in actually being chased around by a bull, on a stag do.  I have a permanent scar from running into the wall of the arena because I was so busy looking to see if the bull was still chasing me or had gone after one of my mates.

More there was a place outside Madrid where for a small fee they would stick you and your mates in a ring and then release a two year old bull to chase you around.  Groom got launched into the air and landed on his arse and was unable to sit down for a couple of weeks and another mate got knocked over.  There were so many of us that there wasn't room for everyone to hide in the four little refuges spread round the perimeter which is why I collided with the wall once trying to get into one.

It's not really much different from going to somewhere in SEA and paying to fire an RPG at a cow.

Can't really get too excited when people advised by sky pixies insist on slashing tens of thousands of animals' throats a day to to bleed them to death so they can put the right label on the meat. 

It’s a while ago but I found it depressing to see it on tv in Spain late pm, a bit like brookside tbh. The banality of bloodsports. Do they have boxing over there? That’s possibly our comparably shameful activity. 

Boxing's a gr8 sport. Prefer the lighter w8 categories personally.

Amateur boxing is a great sport. Pro boxing is something else. Not sure what exactly. It’s not really a sport. It’s grimly fascinating to watch but it’s very hard defend rationally.

Bullfighting is something I cannot bear to watch.  It is utterly brutal.  I am amazed it still exists.

In France they still leap over cows. Yes the young boys might get gored from time to time but the emphasis is on the athleticism. Taurokathapsia. 

I went to a bullfight earlier this year because my partner was keen to see one and I didn't really know what it entailed.

It was awful. I could barely glance up from my phone. They repeatedly stab and torture these animals in the scorching heat for 45 minutes, until they're literally screaming in pain and barely alive, before they finally put a sword through its neck and repeat the process on another. Dreadful experience. 

I’m in two minds. The history/culture is incredible and the plazas are awesome. Banning it would just be another step towards 21st century blandness. 

That said, it’s vile and I have no inclination to go and watch a bullfight. 

There’s nothing bland about humanity, surely? But what to do? 

And the similarities with boxing are many. Both highly skilful, populist and once very popular, both come with a great cost to the participants. I’m a big fan of the art, but not the bloodshed. It’s not hard to grasp. I’ve a hunch the Brits have sentimental attachments to sports such as boxing and rugby that cause head trauma just to sublimate bloodlust. Easier to thump someone than read a book.

We visited the bullfighting arena in Seville too, gorgeous posters of the matadors looking fabulous….no way would we visit for a bullfight.

Lots of blood sports are still alive and well and it's only a couple of months since I last had to deal with some chancers I found in a field looking for rabbits to entertain their terriers.  Funny thing though is that the ones ostensibly carried out by the working classes are ignored but the ones ostensibly carried out by posh police are carefully monitored.  I'd like to see the hunt saboteurs obstructing men with lurchers looking for deer.

In some parts of Latin America they merely annoy the bull for a bit and have it chase them around.  It then goes back to eating grass. Not a bad life.

Rugby is more likely to induce coma on the part of the spectator than the player.  

I have studied the corrida in some depth and visited bullfighting schools.  

I think it's barbaric.

The course Camarguaise, on the other hand, is beautiful and properly sporting.  

I love those bull running videos where someone gets focked up.  People doing obviously stupid or dangerous things and getting owned is always lolsome.
