Apple owning you

having just got a new android phone I have come to the conclusion google are far worse than apple for this. There a zillions of google apps you end up with, all updating like mad all resetting your settings to allow them to spy on you, its exhausting trying to keep changing them back.

the last straw for me - on saturday night I went to Wiltons restaurant where I had my phone on sleep, didnt use it at all and yet sunday morning i open up my phone to find a pop up from google saying How was Wiltons? Rate it here.

JUST FVCK OFF. I didnt even have it in my calendar, it must have been bl00dy location services. I think im going to have to turn off all updates tbh.

I had a Google phone years ago. Randomly clicked on “your timeline” in google maps to find that the phone had tracked me for the entire ownership period while never knowingly accepting it. I expect privacy laws have moved on substantially.

Android phones are so expensive I literally don’t see the point in switching to one. Years ago the best Google phone was half the price of an iPhone.

I just switched to Android. Cheaper than an iPhone and I much prefer it. I'm not getting the notifications Minkie is, I think I turned off all but the absolutely necessary location things.

just had another go at turning off locations. The settings are so long and unintelligible you end up just searching them for “locations” to get the full picture.

Ultimately Google are going to try and trick you with the settings and extract whatever data they're able to that skirts around your settings, because that's how they make money. That's not how Apple make money, so they aren't going to do that.
