Fourth seat trainee at RPC Julio Ketteley is currently taking part in Brazilian TV cookery show The Taste.

The show is a cooking-themed reality competition in which contestants are picked to be mentored by top chefs. In the US version Nigella Lawson appears as one of the star judges. Sadly, in Brazil, Ketteley picks up the crumbs of knowledge from slightly less celebrated cooks like André Mifano, who looks like a lost member of Blink 182.

Ketteley told RollOnFriday that the “adrenaline of working in the City is nothing compared to competing in a steamy kitchen with cameras watching your every move”. Additionally, trainee solicitors are not often called upon to demonstrate their skills using a pig’s head or ants – ingredients that Ketteley was given to rustle up a meal.

Ketteley avoided obvious comparisons between the two environments (eg. dealing with orders under a tight deadline which may result in getting your fingers burnt) and instead said that “my next challenge is to defend my RPC Bake Off title”.  RollOnFriday would be willing to wager a pony on Ketteley retaining his crown.

You don't get to wear one of these in a data room

Ketteley’s impressive efforts both in the kitchen and at work have not gone unnoticed at RPC. Managing Partner Jonathan Watmough told RollOnFriday, "Julio took the honours at last year's firm Bake Off with a stunning croquembouche, leaving my biscotti making up the numbers. It's no surprise, then, that he's carrying all before him in Brasil. I just hope he doesn't do too well, as he's got all the ingredients of a very good lawyer".  Very good Jonathan, back to work now.
