Who will be the core of England in 2028?
If Stokes becomes a batsman only and his body holds out I reckon he could still be there - Root will be late 30s but as good as ever. For the rest:
Crawley and Duckett still opening.
Curran (S) back in
Brook as the next captain - he’ll be a continuity Bazball bloke
Pope (passed over for captain)
Potts
Tongue
Ahmed
What do you lot think?

Rare agree with risky. The ashes in aus will be stokes’ swansong.

Considering Risky and Tom’s accuracy of predictions when it comes to cricket I think Stokesy is now nailed on to play in five years.

Interestingly the BBC have done the same thing and come up with very similar suggestions to my OP:
Daniel Norcross
BBC Test Match Special
I think we've got our squad: Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and Tawanda Muyeye as the opening options, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith - that feels like a strong seven batters.
James Rew is our wicketkeeper - plenty of youth there. We've recalled Sam Curran. Our spinners are Rehan Ahmed and Jack Carson.
Our fast bowlers Sam Cook, Ollie Robinson, Matt Potts, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue.
I've chosen our captain, it's Ollie Pope. That is our 16.

Once again, another Jim ‘prediction’ of the bleeding obvious.
here’s a prediction. You won’t catch any criminals this week.

Rew must be a dead cert. 19 yes old 5 first class centuries.

Risky, as I’ve said before, if it’s so easy, how do you manage to get every prediction you make so disastrously wrong? That takes a special kind of incompetence. You could win prizes.

I think Sam Hain and Dan Lawrence can become regulars. They’ve been on the fringes for a while and should get a chance soon with Moeen retiring from the middle order. Liam Livingstone is also waiting in the wings.
There’s usually a few bolters. I like the look of John Turner at Hants and Dan Mousley at Warwickshire but it’s early days with both.

I don’t think livingstone has the harm to bat too 6 for England or be one of 5 bowlers.
the difficult thing is to find and keep fit some ‘point of difference’ bowlers to win in Aus. I think Ahmed and Atkinson need to be nurtured. Can we get archer back? Will he want to spend the last 5/6 years of his career playing test cricket?
jamie Overton and Ollie stone see to be injured more than they are fit.
Jamie smith at Surrey is a massive talent.
I don’t think Bairstow should go to Aus in 2025

Dicers - agree with almost everything.
YJB - wait and see closer to the time. If he’s still in this sort of form then you can’t leave him out. However, get another keeper in. If he’s struggling, drop him, don’t be sentimental.
I am excited by Potts, Tongue and Ahmed and want to see Sam Curran come back too. I think the future’s bright in general.

Apparently not so early days for John Turner as he’s just been called up after just 12 T20 matches (plus 15 List A and 3 fc games). He’s caught the eye every time I’ve seen him play.
