Pop culture holes

I have never listened to any Bowie albums post Scary Monsters.

I’ve not seen ET, Top Gun or Jurassic Park.

1. I have never listened to an album by Bowie or the Rolling Stones;

2. I have never used TikTok;

3. I have never watched The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Sex Education, Stranger Things, Buffy, Arrested Development, Lost. I never finished the Red Wedding episode of GoT. Apparently I got bored before the blood bath even began.

4. I have not read any Dan Brown or Steig Larsson.

There’s definitely other gaps but that’s all I can think of at the moment.

But even then - I couldn’t be fvcked with GoT, watches the first series and thought it was dull, went back to finishing off Burn Notife (great little show) on DVD.

Never read LoTR or watched any of the films ALTHOUGH I have read the Hobbit. The only fantasy stuff I ever liked was Terry Pritchett really.

Anything sci-fi or fantasy-related, never read or watched LoTR, Star Wars maybe once, ever. GoT I gave up on somewhere in the second to last series.

“jesus girl how do you live”

Well, obviously not by spending my entire time watching TV…I am ok with this. It’s ok to not know these particular cultural reference points, you know. Just like I’m ok with not having any social media. There’s a whole real world out there. I even took my MTB out in it earlier. Got super muddy and it was ace.

ok yes I wasn’t literally suggesting you can’t have a life if you haven’t seen the Wire, all time great work of fiction (across all formats) though it is

But I have got so bored watching stuff like that, even if other people get really fanatical about it. Also, thinking about it, I can find drama series really stressful, it ends up not being a relaxing watch at all. I don’t really crave that sort of viewing, if that makes sense?

The Wire is the one you should consider, were you to consider one. It's truly magnificent.

Not stressful viewing in the way say, Breaking Bad, was. Compelling nonetheless.

I don't subscribe to any streaming services.

The exception being when I upgraded my MacBook Pro several years ago, I was given a month's access to Apple TV, so I watched the first 2 seasons of Ted Lasso and an Attenborough docu with CGI dinosaurs.

(Would like to watch the last season of Ted Lasso, Severance, Squid Game, etc.)

I agree re finding some stuff stressful rather than enjoyable to watch. Happens to me with anything really dark. Switched off from Ozark for this reason, even tho it was quite good
