I'm surprised more of them haven't followed the likes of Messi to Beckham's Miami (or others there). Money not that much different, lifestyle immeasurably better, particularly if they have kids.
The MLS has salary restrictions that would stop them doing what Saudi are doing and they don't have an almost limitless sovereign wealth fund backing the entire league.
MLS won’t pay anything similar to the salaries being paid by SA. Messi is an expection but no other player has the same draw.
It’s an insane salary to player in a league where the teams would struggle in the championship. Neymar is extremely lazy, and is prone to gain weight. It will be interesting to see what he does. I imagine this will be his last payday before retirement, which is sad given his talent
Michael Jordan didn't make his billions playing for the Chicago Bulls. Is there a Saudi equivalent to Nike? Global brand? An Al something or other I may have missed

Other than that, great idea.

As many NFL and NBA stars have found out, with the help of some clever lawyers, there are ways around salary caps.

There aren't any clever ways around the team not having an almost limitless sovereign wealth fund backing them though chunders,

Messi, for all his faults playing for Qatar FC, realised even he couldn't deal with playing in Saudi
In particular he worried about his family
I have a lot of respect for that

It’s a league for the washed-up
nobody is watching

Messi is literally taking the piss in Miami. The other 'top players' are washed up decent chaps like Shaqiri and Chicharito.
He's brilliant but MLS is not football.
