The Jordan Henderson outrage

“I do believe when you see something that is clearly wrong and makes another human being feel excluded you should stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them.”

So wrote Jordan Henderson in his programme notes, as Liverpool’s club captain, for the game against Southampton in November 2021.

It was a nod to the ongoing Stonewall annual Rainbow Laces campaign and came complete with a picture of Henderson standing proudly with a rainbow-coloured armband on his bicep.

£700k per week, for a decent, but not world class player, player in his early 30s is an amazing offer.

Maybe we shouldn’t hold footballers up as paragons of virtue and decency

Who actually does this, apart from big soccer and its hangers on in the politics, media, etc.  Most people who aren't part of that human freak show are quite cynical about footballers.

Maybe we shouldn’t hold footballers up as paragons of virtue and decency and accept they are flawed hypocrites like the rest of us.

He's gone out of his way to vocally support the cause and has been benefitted from the positive publicity for doing so.  Nobody forced him to make such a big deal out of being an "ally".  Deserves the criticism he's getting IMO.

Look, in my opinion, if you say you believe something then you should stand up for it

Henderson lost a lot of respect for me and many others

Thought he was a good one

You know what I call someone who sells their morals?

A cuck

I question how genuine the rainbow armbands and other forms of virtue signalling by Prem footballers are, given the casual homophobia that pervades pretty much every other level of the sport.  But in any case, there's plenty who will ditch their principles for 700,000 (ie what the average Pinsents partner earns in a year) per week.

So sad for Jordan Hehnderson that his financially motivated move, to a country whose civil rights record goes against his publicly claimed beliefs, hasn't worked out and now they have his passport and won't let him leave.

There should be a word for situation like this.

Tell u what anyone who wouldn't break their word for maxicashdolla is a tool.

The bigger tool is he who breaks his word for sigh maxicashdolla and then decides that playing for a mid-table, mid-desert joke club in front of 140 people and a few dromedaries is actually a bit shit but can't leave because, unsurprisingly, he is treated as expensive chattel.

We all need that final good gig to set up the coffers for retirement.  Even more important if you're retiring very young and likely to lose a load of money in a divorce.
