If you were Rishi Sunak what would you do right now?

Me:

Get my podium out for a resignation speech to the nation, and tell everyone that the Tories are fvcked, the country is fooked, and we should just get behind Starmer who might have some better ideas, then resign as PM and Tory leader and say I'll stay on for 2 weeks while they get themselves a new leader to fight the general election, which will be in a month.

Then I'd fvck off to California, take up surfing and spend the rest of my days just chilling the fvck out spending my billions as I pleased.

You?

The best thing he could do for the country is call a gezza. He won't, he will cling on until the very last possible moment hoping for a labour implosion or economic miracle because the tozzas have made it clear that power is the only thing that matters and fùck the economy and the people.

He has nil self awareness, he’s an over entitled rentier banker who believes he’s doing us a favour by being in politics, with no shame. Of course he won’t go voluntarily, it’s the end of his career. And he has so little meaningful experience he will have no next career. And he knows it. So, it’s utterly pointless asking what anyone would do if they were him.

TBH if I was him I would go down in a country fixing blaze of glory:

- ban DB pensions inc. public sector and give everyone an individual pension saving account that replaces the state pension

- block more than the proportionate amount of private/grammar pupils getting places at uni or getting graduate jobs

- per mile congestion and pollution charging for all cars, replacing VED

- ban unions in transport and the NHS, ban private medical care (not insurance) and allow the NHS to charge for treatment

- abolish NICS and introduce a hypothecated insurance scheme for the NHS, health related benefits and elderly care

- abolish all personal income and CGT tax allowances apart from a roll forward £20k a year and charge a flat rate of X% on anything above that. Abolish SDLT.

Hold the line. Let Labour think they've already won.

Big tax cuts in Spring 2024 when inflation is back below 2%.

Call the general election for May 24 and hope for the best.

Inflation will be below 2% because the economy will be fooked. As ever, it's the economy stupid.

There's no money for tax cuts. Trying to do that will create a Truss v.2 situation.

Not right bananaman. If inflation is falling the BOE will stop putting rates up, even if there are tax cuts, so there'll be no run on index linked jonds, pension funds will stay stable and and the BoE will not run a flash crash 2.0.

It will be fine as long as inflation and interest rates have started to come down.

Point that the margin in both by elections was in single digit percentage terms on a low turn out and keep on keeping on.

Sails there huffing Moscow grade copium to avoid saying 3 20% plus by election swings probably don't mean much

If I was Rishi, probably just grant Scottish independence, bring in PR, abolish VAT, abolish speed limits on motorways, make islam illegal, sell the HS rail along with the land, give my wife a seat in the lords and agree a massive visa quota with india

all of which will basically get blamed on labour or fcuk them up if they try to change and get the tories back into power sharpish in 2029

fortunately they'll never do that sort of stuff, they'll sort of play with the tax rates a little bit to no real effect, bang on about green issues being a bit w@nky and sort of hope they don't lose too many safe seats.

England doesn't get a vote, England doesn't have it's own govenrment so there is no point pretending it should get random one off democratic representation

and anyway

don't bother with a referendum, just hive it off and take 60 seats out the losses in parliament

He won't, he will cling on until the very last possible moment hoping for a labour implosion or economic miracle because the tozzas have made it clear that power is the only thing that matters and fùck the economy and the people.

I agree. In other words, pretty much exactly the same tactics as Gordon Brown employed just over a decade ago.....
