That dam in Ukraine

A turning point?

“Kovalchyuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.”

Baryy, presumably you are acknowledging that the deliberate sabotage of this dam is a bad thing and that if (when) it is proven that Ruzzia did it then you will be acknowledging that Ruzzia did a bad thing right?

Can we agree?

I will do the same if (lol) Ukraine are proved to have done the deed.

I doubt that the Ukrainians did this. But if they did, the moral calculus is in no way the same as if the Russians did it, because Russia is the aggressor and Ukraine is forced to defend itself. If Russia had not invaded, none of this would be happening. Good for you to remember that Baz.

Scorched earth (well not quite scorched earth in this case, but...) has been part of the Russian playbook for yonks.  Hopefully the Ukrainians will have planned ahead for that one.

I'd not like to be a resident of Crimea now - the Russians have essentially decided that denying the Ukrainians room to manoeuvre is a higher priority than supplying Crimea with water...

IIRC they destroyed a dam in a similar place in WW2 to hinder the German advance.
