Anyway this gadget looks fooking ridiculous, you have to carry a battery pack or sit next to a plug socket, and it costs $3500 which will translate to £3500 when it eventually arrives in the UK. Best to wait a couple of generations I think
We have been promised a VR revolution several times before and it always flops and Apple dont always get everything right.
On this one the price point is too high for the mass market and will be hobbiests/first adopters only that purchase. Absolutely on guarantee this will take off - most people are uncomfortable wearing VR helmets - I tried one and it made me feel sick.
I’m not sure people really want to be immersed in a digital world via a device they wear on their heads tbh. IMO it will remain a novelty, at least until the technology DRAMATICALLY improves. We’ve kind of done this already with Google Glass and VR headsets for gaming. They have niche appeal not mass appeal, the form factor just is not there and this doesn’t seem very different to me.

I'd have bought an Oculus years ago if it didn't require a Facebook account. People posting way back then about having their Facebook accounts closed and having an expensive brick replace their VR set.

agreed - i think the only way apple can differentiate this is that they already have a massive buy-in of people into their ecosystem in a way meta and even google don’t
if they can make this work seamlessly with apps on your iphone/macbook/apple watch i could see it having commercial appeal
but that’ll take a big investment from developers (which i assume is what they’re hoping for with the launch)
eg presumably the idea is someone can take a 3d video of their holiday or their new flat on their iphone, send it to their mum via imessage who can then pop on her headset and see a vr capture of whatever their kid has sent them
you can’t imagine we’re that far out from being able to do it

I think it could be kind of pivotal.
We all end up increasingly immersed in a digital world for work, fund and social.
Or we pull back and think fook that.
Maybe we will split into two camps. Some people could totally lose themselves in this tbh.

I bought an Oculus and it was fun for a while ( like maybe a month). It basically just gathers dust in the corner now.
