Irwin Mitchell is in talks to offload its offices in Madrid and Malaga.

IM's Spanish outposts were a useful niche for the firm, providing a bilingual service for the British expat community. Who will now have to find other representation when they want to invest the proceeds of bank robberies in pubs on the Costa Brava. The firm confirmed to RollOnFriday that it was in talks with a Spanish firm to form an alliance that would inevitably involve the transfer of its Spanish subsidiary.

The offices were IM's only overseas presence, so it will now be an entirely domestic firm. And it's not clear what will become of the more than 20 staff who were employed there. A spokesman added that the "discussions are of course confidential and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage".

The developments are the latest in a turbulent year for the firm. After coming rock bottom in RollOnFriday's Firm of the Year survey, IM has faced everything from abortive mergers to dirty protests.

Hopefully the Spanish staff will find new jobs. I am sure the pay will be better at McDonalds.

I feel sorry for anyone that works at IM, they really are the worst place to work.
