DLA Piper has told four of its London lawyers to move to Birmingham or face redundancy.
A source said the firm had attempted to sweeten the pot by offering a two-month salary lump sum to anyone who quit. The solicitors, who are in the firm's planning team, must now choose between miserable grey days filled with hopelessness, and redundancy.
The quartet may be swayed by the firm's planning head. Trevor Ivory, who already works in Brum, recently tweeted the "10 reasons Birmingham will be the most amazing city in the world". But then again he moved there from Norwich, where a popular Friday night passtime is driving slowly along Prince of Wales Road watching farmhands fight in the street.
A DLA Piper spokesperson said, "We are in consultation with four members of our London planning team regarding relocation to our Birmingham office in line with the needs of our clients and our business. A team focussing on development planning will remain in London. No decision has yet been made, we are doing everything that we can to support the individuals impacted and sincerely hope they will stay with the firm".
