The results are in for RollOnFriday's maternity leave survey. And it's a shiny new Bugaboo for Weil Gotshal, and a knackered old perambulator for Howes Percival.
The vast majority of the firms in the survey offer enhanced terms, but some are considerably more generous than others. Kudos to Weils for offering a whopping 26 weeks full pay, followed by 26 weeks at half pay. And pats on the back all round, too, for Freshfields, Linklaters, Herbert Smith and Macfarlanes, which all offer attractive packages.
The Magic Circle generally acquits itself quite well, although A&O's policy looks a little stingy in comparison to its peers. Whilst an eight week return to work bonus bumps it up, this will not be handed out until after the employee has been back for three months. During maternity leave the firm effectively offers 12 weeks at full pay before reverting to the statutory minimum.
The wooden spoon for penny-pinching goes to Howes Percival, which only offers a statutory minimum maternity package. And LG gets a special mention for miserliness, barely scraping over the minimum threshold to offer 6 weeks at full pay and the rest at statutory.
* Statutory maternity pay (the minimum an employer must pay) is 6 weeks at 90% salary followed by 33 weeks at £124.88.
