A spat between two New Zealand lawyers has escalated into threats of violence. Frank Deliu wants Boon Hong struck off for vowing to set dogs on him and beat him with a stick.

When Deliu threatened to sue Hong in relation to a dispute between their respective clients, Hong retaliated by saying he would report Deliu to the Law Society. Hong also asked Deliu, who has form for being touchy, if he wanted to bet $30k on the outcome of their clients' dispute.

After Deliu complained about Hong's behaviour to the Law Society, Hong wrote in promising to beat Deliu with "the sorry end of my stick!" and have his two dogs attack him on sight, saying "Yes, Mr Deliu better be concerned about his safety". Now the matter is before the Lawyers and Conveyances Disciplinary Tribunal.

     Hong considers his next move

Deliu's lawyer told the Tribunal that the profession should be expected to "rise above the level of personal slanging and immaturity". According to The New Zealand Herald, Hong's response was to mock Deliu's "mental status" and boast "I know a bit of Kung Fu". Oh dear.

The Tribunal's decision is awaited.
