The newly crowned Miss Universe New Zealand has instructed lawyers after the organisation threatened to take away her sash and tiara because she is not an NZ citizen.

South African born Avianca Bohm won the contest last month, but has been asked to stand down after it emerged that she has yet to obtain NZ citizenship and therefore ineligible for the contest. But Bohm is not relinquishing her tiara and her chance to compete in Miss Universe easily, and has called in the lawyers to fight any attempts to de-sash her. She claims the judges knew about her status and attempts had been made to speed up her citizenship application, according to a New Zealand Herald report.

Donald Trump reacts to the latest Miss Universe Legal stoush

The whole saga seems to be turning into rather a clusterf*ck as Miss Universe NZ organiser Val Lott - who called Bohm's decision to involve lawyers "ridiculous" - has admitted that she knew the South African was ineligible before the contest but did not think she would win.

The final decision rests with the international Miss Universe Organisation, owned by Donald Trump. Although Trump might be occupied for the moment suing Miss Pennsylvania for claiming that the 2012 pageant was rigged.
