Law is not just about climbing the greasy pole and kow-towing to superiors. There is some fun to be had along the way (for some at least). So who are winners and losers in the all in the all-important categories of biscuits, toilets and social shenanigans?
In the biscuit category Mallesons and Gilbert + Tobin should pat themselves on the back, after jointly topping the chart with cracking scores of 83%. At the other end of the scale, Corrs Chambers Westgarth must be offering up some pretty vile cookies to deserve its bottom of the table 27% score. Respondents complained that "catering has been outsourced and it's disgusting" and when it comes to biscuits "staff have come to expect a raw deal". DLA Phillips Fox also did poorly with 36%, "The chocolate biscuits only on a Friday was implemented during GFC but is still on!" exclaimed one horrified staffer.
Lord of the lavatories this year was Fox Tucker, which scored 85%, where presumably staff are fanned and fed peeled grapes every time they answer the call of nature. At the other end of the table, DLA Phillips Fox's 32% suggests the firm has some pretty frightening facilities. Honourable mentions go to Clayton Utz (67%) where "the toilets are designed to specifically show up skid marks ... never makes for a great experience" and Allen Arthur Robinson (75%) which apparently has "great toilets, perfect for snorting cocaine in."
To the parties and the staff at Fox Tucker seem to have a frenzied social life. With a very impressive 95%, the firm was lavished with praise for the "great buzz" with one lawyer getting a little over-excited: "Fox Tucker rocks - watch this space". Mills Oakley - "where karaoke is enforced upon staff" - also fared well (perhaps surprisingly). The staff parties are "brilliant", the "partners buy rounds of shots for the staff" and everyone "loves to get a little loose at firm functions".
But it's all a bit grim at DLA Fox Phillips (again), which scored a woeful 25% for its social scene. And Corrs Chambers Westgarth did little better managing only 35%. The firm was picked out again and again for its penny pinching ways - "every pound is a prisoner".
