The senior partner of a Welsh law firm has been charged with the attempted murder of one of his colleagues.

65-year-old Kevin Lane founded Kevin Lane & Company Solicitors in 1990 and "practiced as a sole practitioner for many years" before deciding to add three staff. He has now been charged with trying to kill one of them.

Rory McCreesh, who qualified as a solicitor in 2016 before becoming a director at Lane's firm, was found "in a pool of blood and struggling to breathe" following a 999 call stating that a man had been stabbed, according to reports.

Police arrested Lane at his Port Talbot home while his employee was taken to hospital. McCreesh was later released after it was determined that his injuries were not life-threatening.

In a statement provided to RollOnFriday, Detective Inspector Gareth Jones said, "We were called around 2.05pm on Thursday June 23 following reports of a stabbing on Dinas Baglan Road, Baglan, Port Talbot", where "a 31 year old man was taken to hospital for treatment of a suspected stab wound".

"Both parties are known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened", he said.

Lane appeared before Swansea magistrates and has been remanded in custody until 25 July. McCreesh, who plays semi-pro football in Division 1 of the Welsh League and also helps coach Wales's Under-17 team, is already back at work at the firm's high street offices, but the firm did not respond to a request for comment.
