A solicitor who was previously a Law Society Council member, and who once stood for President of the Council, has been struck off.
Anthony Bogan, 54, was charged with failing to supervise staff properly at his Uxbridge-based firm Bogan-James. In September 2011 the SRA had to intervene into the running of his firm in order to protect the interests of his clients. Bogan’s practising certificate was suspended with immediate effect and earlier this month Bogan was brought before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal.
Neither the SRA nor the SDT would comment on the judgment, so all the details are as yet unknown. But Bogan (who didn't attend the hearing) was found guilty of a string of charges relating to his time running the firm. There don't appear to be any allegations of dishonesty - Katrina Wingfield, prosecuting for the SRA, told the Standard that "if he was here today he would say he was duped". But nonethless he was struck off and ordered to pay costs of £23,750.
Bogan has had an interesting past. He was a maverick member of the Society, advising it be split up long before the SRA came into force. And he has written at length about facing up to his problems with alcohol.
The Law Society has a knack for picking its council members: last November RollOnFriday reported that one of them had been charged with 19 counts of fraud.
