Newcastle-under-Lyme firm Hacking Ashton has gone bust: the first of the new Alternative Business Structure law firms to do so.

The firm's website boasts "it seems very difficult to imagine Newcastle-under-Lyme without Hacking Ashton". Well, we're all going to have to try now as all six offices are to close their doors today. The firm had ten partners, 75 employees and revenues of £3.5m after embarking on an expansion spree that saw it acquire four local firms and open up another office.

How the firm might have looked

A spokeswoman said that all its clients had been "looked after" and handed over to other firms, and there was a hope that one of the offices might be saved.
