Principal Associate

We are looking for an experienced corporate solicitor to join our Birmingham office.  You will support the partners and other members of the team and work on your own matters, undertaking a broad mix of corporate work such as M&A, corporate finance, private equity joint ventures, fundraising, general shareholder agreements, capital markets, and general corporate advisory work.

You will be part of a growing team which advises a broad range of clients, ranging from new start-ups, through to substantial private companies and PLCs on a broad range of corporate issues and transactions.  A substantial amount of the team's work is international.

Why should I apply?

This is a great opportunity to join a forward thinking law firm.

The team punches above its weight but even so it has an exceptionally strong and growing profile and success is reflected by the increasing quality of its clients, which include the likes of Bupa as repeat corporate clients, as well as the size and profile of transactions such as the sale of 99p Stores to Poundland. The team's ranking in legal directories has risen steadily, supported by high calibre organic growth over a 10 year period.  The team does a lot of cross-border work, supported by M&R's international network.

The firm has been named for a record 16th year running as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in The Sunday Times' annual survey and is one of only a small number of organisations nationally to have achieved a listing for 16 years running, and the only UK law firm.

We have also achieved the much sought after Three Star Accreditation and been named as one of 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies to Work For as a result of outstanding levels of staff engagement and the firm's commitment to creating a positive working environment for all employees as well as being awarded Law Firm of the Year for the second year in a row by RollonFriday.

What experience is required?

  • We expect that you will have 5+ years of qualification, with experience gained in a City or large regional firm.
  • You will have a good background in transactional work
  • You will be able to demonstrate both working as part of a team on large transactions, and/or managing smaller transactions largely unaided.

What skills and attributes would I need?

  • Experience of running transactional work as the day to day fee earner on the deal.
  • Good academics - 2.1 degree or equivalent with good A levels or equivalents
  • Technically strong
  • Excellent drafting and verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team skills
  • Willingness to take initiative and to participate in marketing activities
