I was one of the founders of the worlds most successful internet Relay chat network ever.  I personally owned a server which hosted a million people simultaneously and connected them to a further three million people across the world.

Wish we had found a way to make some money out of it heh.

Really wasn’t as simple as that (although properly heh at your kinda correct summary).

We were actually creating the IRCd which allowed this stuff to happen in the first place... hence the work I did with bahamut and dreamforge.  I know we take much of this for granted now, but..,  back then it simply didn’t exist.

And yeah, wang properly wound me up.   But on the plus side, I just used the information I’ve provided here to search for myself and the picture I found wasn’t actually too bad,  an ugly bug I appreciate that but it could be lots worse.

you are high if you are using that information haha..  Jesus Christ.  You’re right in that we had a huge decline in users, long after I’d left to be honest, mainly caused by our own community.

The entire concept of distributed denial of services attacks sort of originated from #linux on DALnet.  What began as an intellectual concept became something else in the mid nineties.  My own personal guilt over this was not anything to do with original concept, which I thought was interesting and was at the time stunned that CISCO wouldn’t have done anything about it.

Anyway my thought was nothing more than a thought really because these guys were all incredibly better coder than I was.  But it struck me that if there was little defence against a tcp attack, but then they patched that...  would there be any defence against a udp packet level attack? 

Turns out there was not, and.... that was that.

 

By the way, I was just trying to get in touch with Mark Owen who owned the server that first held a million users, only to discover that he died last year.  That’s a bit shit.  W really never got on well but meh.  A pioneer.  Webmaster Inc, for anyone interested.  Somewhere in San Diego I think.

You met me a handful of times several years ago.  This does not equate to knowing me.  I am also not "devastatingly beautiful", and I imagine you have picked up the fact that comments like that make me feel uncomfortable and that is why you have resorted to making them.  Hence creepy and vile.

TBF one could charitably assume Laz was just doing it for shits and giggles (although to do the same thing, so many times, for such a long period, is itself a strong indicator of hatstand tendencies).

I, of course, being your m88, did google it. The photo of "chancer" from #IRCbar could, I must admit, possibly be you although he's not looking at the camera (and he's standing in front of the worst pair of curtains I've ever seen, which is distracting).
