Walked passed some barristers today

Felt a bit inadequate tbh

Do you think barristers are bigger winners at life than sols?

Twitter has ruined all respect I had for them.

Maybe barristers-that-tweet is a group that self-selects down to only the biggest, most pompous morons but christ. Not even journalists or academics have done their reputation as much damage.

I'm sure they're cleverer than me and deffo have a better job.

Most I've met are super dull, though, banging on about interesting cases they've had and the judges they like and the judges they don't like, then droning on about skiing and living in Surrey.

I dated one for a while and she was a real firecracker, so maybe I've only mostly met the boring ones.

nobody who spends their life cosplaying as a vampire, wearing animal hide witchdoctor wigs and being the only person with he patience of a champion excel user to spend thier every waking hour digging into the minutiae of 1 topic of no interest to 99.9% of other people is what I would consider a bigger winner than me

most of the glam attraction is down to drama casting, where the ugmo to fcukable ratio is wildly out of kilter to the actual reality of the 'bar' of which most people, I feel would agree, that when assembled on mass has much of the 'fire in jim hensons workshop' about it

I'm friends with a barrister who does family/child protection cases.

He's been on anti-depressants for years. It's a horrible job, with so much gore, it gave him PTSD.

the (at least top end commercial) bar is one of the few professions where the attributes required for academic excellence directly translate to money making skillz and excellence at the job is rewarded rather than excellence at internal and external networking.   I quite rate those features of life at the bar.

Harry Potter of 25BR is one of my favourites.  He's funny as hell, I haven't been on it for a while but his Linkedin profile was hilarious.  His BBC documentary series "The Strange Case of the Law" is well worth watching.

Now, what's the downside again?

Actually of course, as any fule kno they are still in mourning for Queen Anne.

Given the rig, I'm surprised more of them aren't goths...

I do like going to chambers, proper old-school ones, not pretendy-modern offices.

O God so I did, Eugenie

Tbh it doesn't even look wrong now I reread it

This is why no one pays me £££ for my opinions and I have to do them for free on rof instead
