Best place is always artist themselves if they're still alive. They might have stipulated that their work is always first offered back to them.

 I do this all the time, trying to find current sale prices for stuff. You almost always have to sign up for some auction website to get the prices..

Trying to avoid the trawl/hassle/cost of doing this with numerous separate auction sites - presumed in this day and age there might be some centralised site/app that lets you register interest in XYZ and notifies numerous auction sites accordingly in one go. (?)

FAOD it's not the dogs playing pool ones either... ;)

p.s. FAOD artist ong-dead and has no curating website or other website dedicated to them. Their stuff has been up for sale a few years ago and those (all now closed as 'SOLD') auction sites have no info on current whereabouts of pieces.

If you are posting this on here, then a name of the artist and/or pictures might help. Some here are surprisingly knowledgeable.

Chambo - no. Not posting any specifics / detailed info, ta. I know you're the absolute soul of discretion on here and would never, ever save up such stuff for later subtle or not-so-subtle reference / outing purposes, but others are less honourable than you. Thanks though.

Sorry, I can't help if you can't tell more. I or others close to me have done it quite a bit but never through auction houses.

Hard to say without knowing the type of artist - but artnet is usually quite helpful for this. Will tell you what’s on sale and where and past auction prices and commercial sellers.  Best thing to do is to use artnet figure out which dealers (assuming they are represented by particular dealers) have inventor and then call then direct and have a chat. Auction houses are easy just register for sales with the relevant specialist - they will hound you so much you’ll be sick of them sooner rather than later. 

Sorry just read your update. If you know where they were last sold then just ring the specialist st that house - they will absolutely know what’s coming to market. 

Other thing to do is find an academic who has written about them / the period recently. They’ll know where everything is.

As above, seem to have hit a dead-end re: last sales (I think due to buyers or their agents insisting on anonymity), but will noted on future sales and academics and shall persevere!

You'd (apparently) be surprised at just how far and deep some people on here go to do so, wibble. They do and have demonstrably done so in the past.
