a thread about teeth vanity

my (NHS) dentist just tried to sell me invisalign. When I said it was too expensive for now she said she would refer me to the dental hospital to have my wisdom teeth removed so that I could be "ready" for the invisalign if I wanted it over the next couple of years.

isn't this weird?? to have NHS treatment to prepare for a private one?

I mean the wisdom teeth occasionally annoy me but I am not sure fairly full on mouth surgery is something to do for a lol

no way am I getting invisalign anyway I am old enough to be dubious about vanity projects that jeopardise yr enamel

I had Invisalign but I couldn't keep on wearing the retainer at night because it made my mouth feel so horrible, so now my teeth have gone back to the way they were.

thanks for this reassurance, anna! I know the lower ones are a big crooked but in the past dentists have been all "invisalign wouldn't really work for you and I wouldn't bother", which I was comfortable with as a position. then I got home and was like "am I a freak?"

to be fair they are otherwise quite cool. Maybe I should ask about the wisdom tooth thing.

I feared this, judy! she said you need attachments on your teeth?? sounds unpleasant to the max

aha I suspected as much! she got out these smooth fake teeth with the invisalign on them and I was like "this does not look like it would do much" then she said there were attachments and I was like HM OH REALLY

you are supposed to wear the retainer forever, but I think that this is super unhealthy in the long run because at night, the saliva keeps your teeth healthy.

also you can only ever eat white food because anything else stains the Invisalign.

My dentist told me not to bother with braces because they wouldn't do much. Then 10 years later he told me I should have had braces but it was too late for them to work. Grrr.

My cosmetic dentist said we could do Invisalign for a couple of years and see what happened but aint nobody got time for dat! He just made them nice quickly instead.
