Smallest bird in the UK

No, not the wren. The goldcrest. Ever seen one? There is one outside my home office window picking insects off the underside of the leaves of shrubs. Will see if I can get a pic through the window without scaring it. Beautiful little thing.

I have ringed quite a few; they are absolutely tiny, If you can see bright orange feathers on the head (under the yellow/gold stripe) then it is a male.

*you can’t always see them if you aren’t holding it

dont think i have seen one. have seen a goldfinch round here (possibly a yellowhammer but there was a flash of red on the nabba).

She has only one yellow stripe on her head and no orange.

I found a firecrest once, dead and frozen to the branch of a Douglas Fir. Truly the saddest find, just killed where he stood in the teeth of winter.

So ... Wang, some research and the views of another m8 of mine who is a massive birder all confirm that this was a Firecrest not a Goldcrest.

Quite something for a garden spot.
