You think sexually predatory behaviour by a 35 year old man directed at multiple teenage girls over whose career he has a high degree of control is a bit of silliness?
Not across the detail but it seems like the issue is the grooming.
I guess I look at it this way. If a powerful man pulled strings to get your 13yr old daughter a job and then spent a lot of time with her over the years and then, when she finally came of legal age, shagged her, would you be ok with that situation as a whole?
I have a feeling this isn't done and more stuff is going to drop out of it over the next few weeks. Wouldn't surprise me if the cops end up getting involved.
Isn’t it his brothers conviction that has cast both a torch and cloud over his dodgy behaviour? Nevertheless the amount of interest in this is insane. I am not sure I accept there is evidence of grooming. Would you not ask your daughter now of age why she remained in a job/relationship now she is an adult? Bizarre that there is some kind of implication that the other party didn’t have free will and full capacity.
If a 50 something married partner at a firm put in a word for your 20 year old daughter at his firm, and swung the job, you'd be happy. If he then began a sexual relationship you'd be a lot less happy. This may be entirely above board with poor optics or could be some pretty grim grooming. The breakneck pace that everyone, including his own manager, dropped him points to the latter.
So it’s fine for a 50 year old celeb to ask an 18 year old to show how grateful they are for being given a break in an industry that’s really hard to get in by blozzing them? It’s then fine for that celeb to tell their colleagues and employer that no such thing ever happened?
The following two things can both be true at the same time:
1. P.S. has taken advantage of a power dynamic in a way that is, at best, ick, and would be irrespective of it being a same sex relationship. This should bring appropriate consequences, if true.
2. Homophobes and social conservatives are taking advantage of the story to wheel out the grim old tropes, insinuations and dog whistles which liberals had hoped had been left in the 1980s.
Tim agree maybe the conservatives are going in harder than they might otherwise, but that doesn’t mean people should defend him - I would scorn this if it was a bloke grooming a 13 year old lass in the same way - it wouldn’t fly in most more professional environments.
It's like when you go for an interview, lose out and then check the firm's website 3 months later only to find someone newly appointed with the same surname as one of the partners.
The breakneck pace that everyone, including his own manager, dropped him points to the latter.
Not sure I agree tbh. They just know how the world works. Some may have separate issues with him.
The issue really is how much if any underage grooming took place. Mail (yeah I know but it would usually bias towards controversy) - reports as follows:
That to me is not - yet - evidence of grooming or anything improper.
Agree its certainly raises some possible suspicions, but really if thats all thats gonna come out, its a bit meh. And would feel more like a hit job that happens to be convenient for editors, enemies and right wing homophobes.
And a video. Though I'm sure I read that was filmed in 2015. The other guy's parents weren't present, which would be weird if it was a 2015 video. According to the clown who took the video, Schofield pleaded with him not to release it to MSM as it would end his career

The problem with “scandals” like this is they get spiked before society has to discuss fully why on the one hand it’s attracted to fresh faced chaps like PS on their screens sat next to fresh chested lasses like HW and yet on the other can’t cope with other aspects of their personalities. Well Jesus had a thing about fallen women you know.
I don’t really understand either.
if he had an affair then that is between him and his wife. so long as he can do his job, and do it well, it’s not an issue.
Is it a homophobia thing?
And yet those people in the workplace, sacked for just having relationships, well everyone speaks up about them, don’t they?
I think there is an element of:
Media types try to elevate the importance of other media types.
Also, surely it is Philgate, in a world where everyone is so famous they don't need a surname.
I think it's older, powerful married men gets very young man a job in television. Then initiates sexual relationship with same very young man.
Phil is basically the Oliver Bretherton of daytime television.
Has Olly been sentenced by the beak yet for his silliness?

Me? No.
You?
I feel like this is a sleight of hand move. Admit this lie but none of the others. There can’t be just this one thing, there must be other factors.

Surely if Schofield got him the job before they started having sex it's a case of past consideration.

I wouldn't. I fooking hate this sort of thing, it disgusts me.

Sounds a bit Weinstein if you put it like that.

HTH

Yes agreed- if it’s true, it’s grim.

‘The Mail on Sunday told how Schofield was in his late 40s when he first met his lover as he gave a talk to a North-West theatre school. At the time the younger man was 15 and he asked the TV veteran if he would help him land a job in showbusiness. At the age of 18, the teen moved to London and worked on This Morning, at which point they struck up an 'on-off' relationship.’
That to me is not - yet - evidence of grooming or anything improper.

A cursory search of Twitter will provide you with timeline, copy tweets, other documents etc, all giving you a very detailed picture.

Fixed.

Fair enough Bertha. I should look into it further but surprised theres not more detail in the maistream.
Well, familiarise yourself with the relevant law ;)
