Sandwich toasters- Which one do you have /recommend? Everyone I have bought in the past is rubbish

And I cannot bring myself to spend £100 plus on one, or is that where I am going wrong? I love cheese and ham toasties.

A Breville full stop no arguemnets I have had mine for 20 years and is still going strong

But of course others will now weigh in with thier expensive choices

Are you looking for one that toasts and seals the bread or do you want more of a panini maker?

Do you want grill lines or an even brown?

I prefer the ones that seal the bread and Breville do a great double one for about £25.

I have this one in an older model and in white  I love it

I also have an ancient breville that is going strong. I think you definitely want the toastie sealed, no?

the only downside to the breville ancien is how difficult it is to clean. I hear tell that the modern ones have removable plates, I could be tempted to upgrade for one like that.

I thought toasted sarnie makers were just for students and typically given out when opening a stude bank account

tc, I just wipe mine over with a damp cloth when it is hot,   never wash the plates, you take the grease off and that helps with the non stickiness of the thing

Presumably this is for when the cook has the night off?  I would just use toastie bags in a decent normal toaster tbh old bean.

breville double... love it.

I also have a cute one in the shape of a pig... but sadly there is too much bread left at the sides....

I want one which seals the cheese and ham in the toasted  bread. Like the ones you get in Pret?

The ones Ive had in the past the bread is soggy and the filing look war, , or bread burnt and filling cold, grr!

'I want one which seals the cheese and ham in the toasted  bread'

GET A BREVILLE

These are universally used once only then put in the back of the cupboard never to be seen again until it’s time to move out.

Yep get a breville

abbs I think perhaps I put too much cheese in mine - there’s no way just a wipe with a damp cloth would be hygenic

Thanks, Breville it is, I don't suppose which one of the range is"best" or just go for a mid range one?

'These are universally used once only then put in the back of the cupboard never to be seen again until it’s time to move out.'

No they are not

I just do it a pan with lots of butter when absolutely spangled.

The one I have ebitda, get that one

tc, the heat of the plate will kill any germs and I am telling you wipe with a cloth, that is what I do, what I have always done, and will keep doing and I am still here.

But what do I know

The question was

Sandwich toasters- Which one do you have /recommend?

Not how I cook a toastie

I have never owned a sandwich toaster so am unable to opine.

same. And you need cheese on the outside of the bread too

An Aga does the job really well.  Everyone has one, yes?

Ah right. I recommend a pan, any pan, and a basic grasp of cookery.

We have something like this as I do not like my bread sealed. I don't get why you want the bread sealed? You burn your tongue to a crisp on hot cheese lava and chip a tooth on the rock hard edges. Unless you overstuff them and the edges don't really seal and you get gooey cheese everywhere (which is yum) which means you have to replace the goddarn thing every couple of years. But let's be real: IF THEY'RE 12 POUNDS WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU CARE?

ebit - you're requests for rof advice are becoming increasingly mundane.

I almost miss the gastropub days.

What Abbs said a double Breville is the best.

Cunts making cheese on toast in pans and calling it a toastie are just Doing It Wrong.

Yearofthepig - I just watched a video where yer man cooks it directly on the simmering plate. WTF?I Is this how you do it?

Is this how you do it?

NO NO NO

YOU DO IT IN A BREVILLE

The "you" in my question meant, specifically, YotP.

Breville/non-Aga owners - talk amongst yourselves.

I don't fvcking know, why do I care?

I don't live in Holland

breville

white bread, cheese, Philadelphia, jalapenos, thank me later

Love that this thread is still ongoing 5hrs after it was definitively solved in the first reply.

Will it tun?

white bread, cheese, Philadelphia, jalapenos, thank me later

No butter? ffs

Whoever said about doing it in a pan - do that

Breville gives stupid hard ages and minimal filling unless you want it to leak put everywhere

It also comes out of a breville hotter than the fvcking sun (Sue).

The only hotter thing is a pita out the toaster.

Spaffing superheated steam all over me hands.

Fuck off, satan's flatbread!

We went to Argos in the UK.

In NL I'd just buy it when on sale at Lidl or Aldi.

Or HEMA. Can't go wrong there. (Top tip: you can get good stroopwafels or chocolate sprinkles there too!) For small household electrics we have a bit of an old fashioned store called Blokker. Online you use bol.com, which is our version of Amazon.

There is a hema in london now tricky - on high st ken. It’s ace. Stroopwafels are delish.

Deffo not a breville. Far too small for the modern white loaf (Warburton toasties ftw).

You want a George foreman poi tless grill or similar

Good to see this thread still has life.

Can you get a George Foreman that seals the bread?

If not, pointless.

I have deep fill Cuisinart - which is like a bigger deeper Brevile, ftw

IT MUST HAVE SEALED EDGES! - but with a bit of cheese seepage so you get the burnt bits.

The breville is a sarnie maker for the 1980s with mihhty white stuffed with kraft cheese slices and ham with a bear face on it.

Answer the question wang. Does George Foreman seal the bread?

Paxman Face

PS

Warburton toasties is the correct bread for this.

turns out I have the cuisinart deep fill double , not a breville. its good
