Rule of six - an improvement

I’m pretty sure this six indoors from anywhere is an improvement, was it not six indoors but only two households before??

Yes i think it is an improvement in that respect. And I think if your two household bubble was more than six it’s ok at the higher number?

Obviously the whole thing remains abhorrent

yeah well we were all complain8ng about how many people in uk died because we left lockdown too late, they’re not going to make that mistake again

not seeing gran at Christmas will seem pretty trivial if she’s gasping her last in hospital

For a proper bubble (i.e. a one adult household and another household) then yes, more than 6 is okay.  If you have 3 kids then you can't have both grandparents round unless someone keeps going for a walk.

Similarly for eating out now - we had a 7 person meal booked (a 3 adult household and a 2 adult household with 2 kids).  That was legal before Monday but is illegal from Monday so we've had to boot someone.

in Scotland it is now

six but only two households

masks in restaurants except when eating

and I got someone from HR to admit yesterday that sometimes suicide is a rational act

as for not seeing gran

would you rather die alone with dementia?

Before it was 30 indoors or outdoors from any number of households but the advice was to stick to 6 from 2/3 households.

Imagine getting pancreatic cancer now. I saw on the charity insta a woman commenting that her sister died in July having been diagnosed without ever seeing an oncologist face to face

So it looks like Wales have said they have no evidence that restricting outdoor gatherings to 6 is helpful, so are keeping it to 30 people outdoors.

Glad THE SCIENCE always comes to the same conclusions when it comes to restricting extremely basic civil liberties in this country.

You don't have to wear masks in wales either.

I might move to wales

I think they just changed the mask rules because they hit 20 cases per 100k?

Wales will lock down harder and longer than England when cases rise again on past form I don’t think moving there would be wise.

I remember the fuck off home we are closed  signs on the M4 as you approached Wales even after England had returned to a semblance  of normality

OH broke the law by driving to Chepstow during lockdown, narrowly avoided being driven out by locals with flaming torches

I similarly without thinking tried to take a short cut through a corner of Wales and actually got flagged down and turned around by the rozzers

Could you sit at 2 tables?

So if bubbles are excluded, does that mean I can go for lunch with 5 of my friends but then take my support bubble buddy as a 7th?

Celtic Labour's devolutions working according to plan

No meh don’t think so you can more than 6 if one household plus bubble only but if more than one household limit is 6

It is very complicated. If it continues to December then family Christmas will be cancelled (just like Easter and our summer holiday in late June was).

Also the new regs for England are not out yet (I check every day for legislation uk legislation website) so we don't know yet - devil might be in the detail.

I would say it was a racing certainty it will continue through winter I am afraid Lydia

Remains to be seen how this will be policed and to what extent it's enforceable Lydia; I'd hold fire on that before making any decisions.

it will be policed by stasi neighbours dobbing you in and prosecuted against those who don't have a good lie ready

Could you sit at 2 tables?

Not legally, I mean you definitely couldn't legally interact and arguably it'd be illegal if you planned it (rather than bumping into people who you are then meant to ignore).

I'm actually fine for it on this limited occasion as it is the MiL who has been told to sling her hook.

It is swings and roundabouts though in terms of freedom with a few positive bits, the odd negative but actually a simpler system than before (which isn't saying much).  The 6 households indoors is good as winter is coming.

I sitll don't think it will be very simple. So let us take L4 - student flat of 2 (very small this year after 7 or 8 people in earlier years). So they can have 4 other people in for an evening? I think that's fairly simple. they have cancelled a group of 8 they were having on their roof terrace and a friend has cancelled the "graduation party" outside at her parents' house they were having next weekend for about 15 people.

I don't even know if under the current law when the twins' 2 friends come here what is allowed as the rules have changed so much. They all know my ideal is to be a hermit and never see anyone so I suppose covid is my friend in a sense.......

So what is allowed indoors (number of persons, number of households)

(a) today; and

(b) from Monday?

Kimmy:

(a) 2 households, I think unlimited people?  As in there was an express exemption from the 30 where it was only 2 households;

(b) 6 households, 6 people.

My family members who may or may not be off to uni this year are in flats in halls with 8-12 rooms, so how is that going to work?

Legally? - There is an express exemption if your household is more than 6 people for that household to have more than 6 people socialising.

So the flat can hang out together fine.  They can even go to restaurants together as a group of 8-12.

But if there are 6 people in the common area you can't have a friend round - or maybe you could but you'd have to "socialise" in a group of less than 6 so you can have friends back to your room, but no more than 6 in a room / the common areas unless they are all living there.

Though of course the "how is that going to work" is they're going to mostly ignore it unless they get stuck with a zealot - though they ought to be careful about parties which may draw attention.
