Rachel from accounts on the brink…

If as she claims she let it through an agency, surely she would have been told of the requirement to get a licence.

Even if not, ignorance is no defence of the law, as we know.

Well. Angela Rayner dishonestly blamed her solicitors for her tax dodge, and I'd be fooking gobsmacked if estate agents gave advice about licensing as opposed to contracting on standard Ts and Cs regarding the customer's responsibility for regulatory compliance..

We also know that Ms Reeves has form for

dishonesty

A fiver says the estate agents gave no such advice.

Bye bye 👋

Don't let the door to No.11 hit you on the arse on the way out.

"She had not been made aware of the licencing requirement"

This is a requirement introduced by her local Labour run council.  If an MP isn't aware of this stuff how in the name of God are ordinary people expected to keep up with this stuff.

This - and the Rayner thing - both involved rules introduced by Labour that Labour's own MPs were not complying with.  And the rules on life generally in the UK are now so complicated that it is is not easy to comply with them all.  And the hassle of compliance is certainly damaging the UK economy and, I would say, society also.

We need a much much simpler state.

Don't particularly care for Raquel or her sister on the NEC but this is weak beer, chaps. Becoming Chancellor and then closing down an investigation into your own affairs into the millions. That's a front page. A chinny not signing you up when doing the rent deposit thing and managing said gaff is a FFS thing. Play the ball. Not the man. Unless the man sticks the ball up his jumper in an attempt to hide the ball by pretending it's his dad's.

weaker beer than a fixed charge penalty notice....

If it's such weak beer, why is it a criminal offence?  and why is it punishable with an unlimited fine or paying back 12 months' rental income?

Fat Alex wasn't turfed out for a cake. He lost the pulse and the support and the cake was just another slapdash bluster of stupidity from a chap whose schtick of roguish charm whilst speaking from both sides of his mouth had worn thin. A leader without a following is just a guy out for a walk.

Private office should be all over the paperwork.  But sure that's going to make the markets lose confidence.

Thin gruel. Not exactly Nick vin H.

he was of course turfed out by his own ministers and back bench MPs. agreed. but that doesn't change the fact that there was widespread poltical and media obsession with the fixed penalty notice. He " broke the law" bla bla.

Bodger was a charlatan unfit for high or indeed any office. This lot are hapless though. Laughably inept. All this stuff is DD for the trainee ffs. They’re supposed to be technocrats into details.

“Rachel Reeves house is genuinely one of the ugliest buildings I’ve ever seen.

It’s like someone dropped a public toilet on top of a mobile home.”

Marshall being a tool as ever

Why is it “unlawful” to rent out your house fgs

ignorance is no defence of the law, as we know.

Have you even roffed?

In her defence as a fellow Dulwich resident - letting agents need a complete overhaul and proper regulation PropertyMark is not fit for purpose neither is the Property Ombudsman and the Referencing Agency “GoodLord”  who is taking over the referencing of many agencies in London is not properly regulated either.   Her agency probably didn’t inform her about the license.

PropertyMark and Goodlord are in bed together and their senior people are right wing supporters.  Now the Renters Rights Bill has received Royal Assent and is law they don’t like that there is now proper support in place for tenants who have more power and they cannot kick them out at a whim or raise rents shockingly high and not repair tenants home in a timely manner.

All the right want to do is have everyone on the front bench sacked.   They were calling for Lammy to go the other day, he put that tossed Jenrick in his place good and proper.

Here in Southwark landlords require a license to rent this is to ensure safety and building standards are met.

Nickers you need to sit and watch some parliament TV and you will see quite how much this government has achieved behind the scenes for this country.

If you really are that ignorant and do not care about how people are struggling the that says a lot about you.  This country is struggling for multiple reasons Brexit, the pandemic, war in Ukraine and Gaza and especially what those tossers on the right especially Liz Truss has done to this country.

You simply cannot run a country on austerity.  They and  reform want to spend literally nothing helping no one.  We don’t want a welfare state and compared to the rest of the world we are far below average on spending on welfare it is all bollox blown up by the right.

When Rachel resigns she can always take up a job as a garden designer.

Her take on the ‘ front bistro terrace’ , and her minimalist  flower scheme, are something that Gertrude Jekyll would have aspired to.

Stop meatshielding laz, doesn't really matter why, fact remains it is.

Fairly tuglite over this but does evidence her utter incompetence

What the law should be ALWAYS matters more than what the law is, tho ROFtedes love to strut their “knowledge” of the latter (which is usually wrong anyway).

This thread is classic ROF - bribed Tory bad actors say bribed Tory bad actor things

absolute 🤣🤣😂🤣 that there r tozza meat shields like dicemn and todgersmellie still determined 2 defend the worst prime minister we’ve ever had

this is in no way comparable 2 johnson and his cake parties

1stly cos it was actually johnson’s law - he was directly responsible

2ndly cos it was obvious it was the tip of the iceberg and the guy had been breaking the law all over the place, he just got caught

3rdly cos he didn’t have the good grace 2 apologise

and 4thly (and most of all) cos it showed just wot a disgracefully selfish guy he is and how bad the tozza party r, with absolute no regard 4 the ppl of this country, only themselves, despite the tozzas being responsible 4 the state of the nation

“Meatshielding”, that is, justifiably and objectively defending the record of this well intentioned and deeply competent government, is entirely justified and necessary given the constant attempts by the despicable malefactors of our lavishly Russian-funded right wing media cabal to gangfvck the current administration for not being absurdly, jackbootedly oligarchical right wing. Idiots like rodge and iceman their apologists. Round ‘em up

I said it with Rayner but if you’re an MP and especially a minister and know that people will scrutinise everything you do you need to get decent advice and potentially a second opinion to be sure this doesn’t happen.  I think the problem is farming this stuff out to minions and only discovering when it’s too late that the minion didn’t even Google letting requirements.

Don't particularly care for Raquel or her sister on the NEC but this is weak beer, chaps.

In itself, yes, it's a technical mistake which she can easily remedy.  The problem is that it's a classic bit of stupid and needless over-regulation - politician's logic of "we must do something, this is something, therefore we must do this" - which only has the effect of driving rental property more and more into the hands of giant corporations.

That is brilliant Dicers...only some 10 days ago!

Laz, TOOFA and co utterly pwned in the most tragic way possible.

She has to go now.

“If you really are that ignorant and do not care about how people are struggling the that says a lot about you.  This country is struggling for multiple reasons Brexit, the pandemic, war in Ukraine and Gaza and especially what those tossers on the right especially Liz Truss has done to this country.”

Lot number 1 in what already feels like a long day. - The Bleedin’ Obvious. What am I bid?

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!!

ALL OF US WHO CARE - GENUINELY AND SINCERELY CARE - ABOUT OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES MAINTAINING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS MUST DEMAND THAT THIS BE TREATED WITH THE SERIOUSNESS IT DESERVES AND THAT THOSE RESPONSIBLE - WHOEVER THEY MAY BE!! - FACE THE CONSEQUENCES!!

Err please show where I defended Boris?

Can I even read ?

Nobody gives a fook, what matters is whether she and Starmer will be forgiven for increasing income tax as now seems inevitable.

It is the right thing to do but they will be hit around the head with it for ever more.

They should have done that in the first budget, get all the bad shit done, rather than drip drip drip.

Don't think the defining moment of this govt has happened yet tbh

Can I even read ?

😂 i’ve always wondered too

RACHEL - WHO I WILL NOT DIGNIFY BY USING HER SECOND NAME - IS A WOMAN

A WOMAN FROM ACCOUNTS

NEED I SAY MORE!!

No end of excellent women politicians.  She just ain’t one of them

So she wasn’t even making money from this fuċk up? What an amateur! Did she learn nothing from her predecessors?

SKS says that there will be no further investigation - so it must be all ok then.  Right?

Is ignorance of the law and acceptable excuse?

I am not so sure it is when you are the chancellor

But she had declared the house on her interests so surely some gimp should have helped her out here and said something

It's almost like major political parties could employ a couple of people in an office to just deal with this stuff for ministers and probably MP's and use a couple of trusted external advisers.

With this kind of reporting we are never going to get good politics in this country. This is such a pathetically minor issue; no one in the real world, except frothing Reformers, would think this is relevant to the macro economic issues she is responsible for. So much time is wasted on gotchas, rather than talking about policy. The press would rather talk about parking tickets than ways to increase productivity. We need to accept politicans are human and make mistakes from time to time, and they are irrelevant except to the extent they directly bare on competence for their brief.

As my mum always said about Theresa May's short skirts it's a matter of judgement.  This is another indicator of poor judgement and not taking things sufficiently seriously.

The level of scrutiny certainly puts many good people off being politicians but if you are determined to go down that route then you do need to make sure that you are generally above reproach.

Why have senior politicians not got access to decent private client lawyers who can sort all these noddy housekeeping issues? It’s hardly offshore trusts for a large estate is it? These people present as so pikey ffs

Smacks of the civil service trying to fook her over tbqh

The problem about when decent private client lawyers become involved things start going a bit Nadhim Zahawi - no, the thing is that I just loaned those shares to a trust of which my father was a beneficiary which then used them as security for the loan that was used to exercise the call option

Sky’s journo at number 10 seems to think she’s witnessing the last days of the government ffs could she look more desperate?

weaker beer than a fixed charge penalty notice....

Is this a reference to Alexander Johnson, who was removed by his own MPs because he covered up sexual abuse?
