Piers Morgan and the Daily Mail

WTF is the DM's obsession with Piers Morgan? His name appears 14 times on the Daily Mail's homepage.

I live in morbid fear that somehow he will end up prime minister as our own version of Trump.

He’s popular in the same way that John Terry’s Mum is popular.

Can I just say that the OP title is a masterclass in deterring people from clicking on the thread.

isn't he a columnist for the Mail?

I quite liked his memoirs as I'm interested in the media business. This was about 15 years ago before he became the male Katie Hopkins.  His books now sit on a shelf next to Max Clifford's autobiography. I really need to have a clearout.

and yes he is a lying dickwad.

I like him because he upsets the right people, namely: bleating, Europhile, anti-Trump, anti-Corbyn, globalist, politically correct, #metoo promoting, "safe-space" dwelling, perpetually offended tedes.

I see this, but what really confuses me is you.  On the one hand you are a fusty, corduroy wearing, time-travelling, short-arsed puffy man child with a nursery-driven titty fixation who thinks Britain was Great when we were force fed spam fritters without the spam, and yet on the other you are self-proclaimed champion of the man in the street, pro Corbyn and quick to condemn what you see to be elitism, entitlement, wealth and prejudice. Those last five words are to your credit, yet mark you out as the left of centre person you claim to be (assuming true), in which case all of the issues you list above as things you despise are the home strip of your kind. So make your fooking mind up.  What are you, right on or right twot?

Bump. I fear my prediction above is becoming ever more likely.

Remember: just because he has a point about government incompetence and vuvu doesn't make him less of an unprincipled twat.

I think Morgan is grandstanding on GMTV as a platform for launching a career in politics  - the only saving grace is I don't think any of the major parties would have him and most people still hate him.

That said, he is filling a gap in terms of holding government to account - the governments relationship with the Laura K's of this world seems far to cosy.

isn't it just that he's successfully imported the Fox News formatt but realised that for it to work in the UK you can't slavishly follow a political party but rather you have to follow the general zeitgist of contempt that permeates british culture

hence his sudden rage boner for brexit and corbyn hate is today jaming his pick cushioned arm up the slack anus of any tory who pops up on GMB to defend the government

Tbf his public disembowelling of Andrew Bridgen this morning was long overdue. Why no government MP has been given such a dressing down over their incompetence to date is a mystery.

All of this is fairly similar to his silly anti-gun campaign in the US.  He tends to latch onto an issue and attempt to fashion himself as the voice of said issue.

Obviously quite silly in the US given that they are gun maniacs but he seems to have found a decent niche here re: being against people dying of a deadly virus.

I have absolutely no doubt that he does not actually have any strong, personally held feelings regarding either (or indeed any) issue.

His female co host (Suzanne?) was doing a better job of it before Morgan jumped in and let Bridgen off the hook by ranting so Bridgen didn't have to answer her difficult questions that he was clearly struggling with.

Silly anti gun campaign?

Only person in the media actually criticising the govts incompetence.

Voted Remain, admitted on QT that he didn’t know whether Brexit would be a good or bad thing (the only public person I can recall saying this - it was the only truly honest position). And then robustly stood up for the referendum to be respected.

TBH the more I see of Piers the more I like him. He tends to be right on most things.

He’s only unpopular because he doesnt neatly fit into anyone’s tribe in our idiotic culture wars. And he has a boorish manner obvs. But tbh its entertaining and that is his job.

To compare him to the seemingly hate filled bigot and lunatic that is Katie Hopkins is totally unfair.

He is a bully - no amount of poshness, intelligent sounding (relative only to the usual standard of gobshite his sort normally spout) musings, occasional funnies, changes the fact that he is a proper, flush the little scrote's head down the toilet while giving him a wedge, unreconstructed bully.  And he is particularly in his element when he is bullying women.

He is an awful, terrible man.

What was that program back in the day with Clive Anderson as host? He threatened him with a long lens in a garden bush, when Anderson said there is nothing in his bins worthy of the tabloid interest. I can only imagine the stuff he has sanctioned in the past.

Apparently he gets paid a million quid PA by the Mail. That surely cannot be right?

Bet you anything he reappears on GB News soon when that starts up as a "free speech martyr" and shock jock.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the whole thing including storming out of the studio yesterday and leaving ITV no choice but to fire him was set up by Moron and I expect he already has another job to go to on a higher salary.  Depressing.

People keep saying that every single one of them has failed to understand the point of GB News. There is simply no way they would have him on, even as a guest.

Yeah hes boorish. And yes hes a shameless opportunist.

But on free speech - hes pretty much right.

On Meghan - I really wouldnt be surprised if he turned out to be broadly right again.

On the Meghan thing - whats interesting to me about the situation is that the actual truth of what things may have transpired is totally irrelevant to the media debate that ensues. Whether her claims are true or not (or, most likely, at least a little bit true but hammed up significantly) - we all know that the debate that has followed would have been as it is almost regardless. Theres no way or proving anything and even if there were the proof would never be good enough for the other side so the debate would have been pretty much the same. I find this worrying. Nobody is saying ‘hang on we dont really know enough about this’. Both sides are going into battle as if they were in full knowledge of the absolute truth.

Morgan has just been doorstepped by Sky. “ I believe in the freedom of speech , and I stand by everything I said about MM, if the woke crowd think they have cancelled me watch where I turn up”

the press release by ITV which presumably he agreed , denied that he said MM was lying about feeling suicidal . Both statements cannot be true . Reid this morning was genuinely upset and had a face like a smacked arse, I reckon she will be off soon
