Mourinho

This is a disgrace. Not the United way. He just needed more time and the club should be ashamed of themselves.

fooking hell that is a disgrace. The club is fooked. We’ll probably end up with giggsy till the end of the season and come in 12th befor appointing someone like Zidane and continuing not to buy the right players.

Like Arsenal under late period Wenger, Man Utd have a players that a decent manager will be able to get a lot more from.

I reckon calling the season a write-off and going after Pochettino and Christian Eriksen in the summer would actually be their best move.

Or maybe if both of them string United along for a while before fooking off the Real Madrid that would be really great.

Added to the above, surprisingly MOU's loss & draw ratio (19.4% & 22.2%) was comparable to SAF's (17.8% & 22.5%) as well.

Moyes = L29.4% & D17.6%

LVG = L23.3% & D24.3%

So it must be the dire football and the perceived downward slide wot did for him.

He's lost the dressing room, just as he has done at every club hes been at.

The simple fact is that he is a hugely successful manager but football has left him behind. He still sets his teams up / plays the way he did in 2004. Football has moved on, the likes of Klopp, Guardiola and Poch are country mile ahead of him in terms of tactics and coaching ability.

Man Utd have massively fooked up in missing out on the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel etc. They're likely to appoint Zidane who was successful at Madrid but had a genuinely world class team and knew the club / politics inside out. Man Utd have a distinctly average playing squad with two or three very good but underperforming - im not sure Zidane would actually be any good.

The answer, imo is that they should go all out for Poch. Just thrown whatever money at him that it would take and give him whatever guarantees he needs. The whole squad needs overhauling and they need to decide on an identity for the team.

Cant disagree with much of that, except to say that united have some of the best players in the league but they’re basically all underperforming to some degree (I don’t actually entirely blame mou for that but it’s moot now).

Someone should be able to make use of a team with de gea, Shaw, Matic, Pogba, Herrera, fellaini (yes fellaini), Mata, Sanchez, Rashford, Martial and Lukaku.

The defenders are indeed average, and the wider squad is massively unbalanced but that is a top 4 team (a top 2 team six months ago)

I agree that it will take years and a real revamp before we win the league again (or at least go back to being in the mix consistently).

I don't understand how top managers get huge sums for breach of contract as presumably there will be other clubs queuing up to offer them jobs and they are obliged to mitigate their loss.

Someone should be able to make use of a team with de gea, Shaw, Matic, Pogba, Herrera, fellaini (yes fellaini), Mata, Sanchez, Rashford, Martial and Lukaku.

de Gea - world class, but having a poor season

Shaw - very average

Matic - past his best, limited player

Pogba - potentially world class but inconsistent. needs to be in a system which suits him

Herrera - limited wouldn't get into CM at any side in the top half of the table

Fellaini - oh come on. he can do a certain role but shouldn't be near an elite club

Mata - great player but past his best

Sanchez - has fallen off a cliff in terms of form. I think injuries and playing loads of football has caught him up. has lost that sudden burst of acceleration which made him brilliant

Rashford - potentially great, wasted under Mourinho

Martial - see rashford for more details.

Lukaku - flat track bully. great for sticking 4 past Newcastle but will never deliver when it matters. plus has got very "heavy" this season

I would pyss myself if Rafa ends up being the interim manager, if only to see rollonfriday’s wellington’s reaction.

I'd be fine with it, we could just get Mourinho in as an interim. We've been watching shite football all season so he'd fit right in.

Zidane managed to almost stumble his way to 3 champions league. They were awful in league during his last season at Real. I am not sure how much of a long term solution Zidane would be, it would

Mourinho has just been Mourinho. You know what you're getting when you appoint him, though you probably expect a couple more trophies.

Gary Neville has it right, the senior people above him on the football side, all the way up to Woodward, don't have a clue. Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho were all decent managers before they came to United. Doesn't matter who replaces Mourinho if other changes aren't made. They could stick Klopp or Guardiola in and it wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference. So don't see how Poch or Zidane can hope to succeed.

Extending Jose's contract was mental, given his known cycle of self destruction, but then not backing him was the nail in the coffin.

Klopp or Guardiola in and it wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference

That just isn't true imho.

That said, would they win the league? Unlikely. City are light years ahead and will only keep getting better.

Probably right Wellington, Klopp or Guardiola might have been marginally more successful than Mourinho maybe (at least less negative). Still don't think they would win any major trophies with the management structure in place.

I’m surprised no one seems to have though of Guus Hiddink tbh.  He probably wouldn’t take the job because he’s pals with Roman but he can do a good job in the prem - we won a couple of bits of silver with him as interim.

I would love it to be Roy Keane heh!

all things being equal I don’t see how anyone would have done better than José at United the in the first two years, year 1 - two trophies (more than spurs or Liverpool in aggregate over the last ten years) and CL qualification, year 2 - no silverware but (admittedly a distant) second in the league, but we’ll ahead of the rest.

Trouble is because of how and who he is he has no credit in the bank when things are tough.

There have been patches where klopp was tipped for the sack over the last couple of years, and Guardiola had his team built for him in the two years leading to his appointment so it’s not exactly comparing like with like.

Seemed as if Mourinho wanted to get sacked tbf or didn’t care that much anymore. He’ll be happy to be back in London and not in a hotel now. Glad he’s gone. Negative and didn’t back any of his players.

Poch didn’t say no, did he. Interesting.
