I'm a Liverpool fan and I wouldn't take him to the WC this year on form alone; he is also more flaky defensively than the others which has been even more evident this year. That said, Southgate doesn't seem to pick on form if Maguire is anything to go by.
He's a weird one, should he go based on defensive ability alone above the other candidates? No.
Should he be in the squad for what else he brings to the table? I think so.
Southgate just doesn't seem to fancy him. But baffling as you say, while he continues with a woefully short of form and confidence Maguire.
I'm hoping some global organisation of great repute will eventually weigh in with an opinion that he's totally f**king the pooch, like they do with the Government now.
It's just a position where we have a lot of talent. it's a reasonable shout to think james and walker are better. But I think TAA is better than Trippier
He's a defender who can't defend. Great talent, amazing vision and passing ability. Reece James is better all round, walker is a good defender and much quicker. I'd take TAA because he brings something different and we aren't scoring enough goals.

defensively he was good, but this season has lost something. Not sure why liverpool don't play him on the wing.
