Lilibet? WTAF?!

This smacks of trying to get some brownie points with the royal family, but naming the kid the nickname of the Queen is just a bit weird. Call her Elizabeth by all means. But Lilibet? Seriously?

  • What does this nonsense to distract from?
  • Freedom Day not happening?
  • I await the sight of your muzzled face, quadruple wünder jab assumed, twisted in disappoinrment outside many and varied, closed, nightclubs on 21 June.

They are living the life of celebrity fookery.

Soon enough we will the reality programme "the royal of LA" ....a bit like the real housewives of timbuktoo.

Everything is for sale.

So they’ve kept with the I formal thing of giving them nicknames as Christian names. Lili is nice. But it’s weird to insult the shit out of everything she stands for and then use her name, particularly while she’s still alive

But it’s weird to insult the shit out of everything she stands for and then use her name

interesting admission by EP there that the queen stands for… racism I guess?

dunno

i also think it’s a nice name

It is a bit unusual. Eg Harry is correctly Henry and Kate Catherine. Suddenly to start using weird nick names as registered names is odd. Also for Christians a name has to Christian name/saint's name which Elizabeth is but Lilibet is not and I think Diana is not a biblical name either.

I believe people can change, have genuine regret and remorse, and be rehabilitated.  I see her as both criminal and victim, her age is clearly a significant factor and I’d have her back here and tried in our system.

Couldnt be bothered to check cockpit, just presumed they wouldnt copy. thats a bit naff.

Is that a rule about christian names, my mum used to go on about how christian names had to be saints names but she was a fully iup religious person and we used to all just roll our eyes when she started.

It's not about Lilibet, it's about the name Diana.

When the Queen carks it she will become Princess Diana... ...I mean, that's ace promotional material for the next Amazon series.

I care...

...OK 'care' is a bit strong, I'm interested in how the ginger dupe is being manipulated by a clever woman... ...I'm learning lessons in how to how to press the buttons of your selected audience.

When the Queen carks it she will become Princess Diana...

Doesn’t Charlie want to change the rules so that doesn’t happen?

Anyhoo, we already have Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana...

I doubt its genuine sucking up, they will be exploiting the RF stuff further in the future so no point, more likely part of their media/publicity strategy.  All about having a very public link to the Queen, also so they can whine tearfully at the cameras about how they tried to heal the rift and how awful it is that little Lilly was estranged from her namesake.

In fact, I'm sure they know that the presumption of using the Queen's nickname, which might otherwise indicate an extrodinarily close and fond relationship, will be a massive slap in the face after what they have done to blacken the name of the Queen's family and exploit it for money and publicity.  A little extra bonus for them.

I honestly have no idea why so many people are on the hate brigade for Harry and Meghan. It's like people have swallowed the feedings of the Daily Mail as if it were a delicious apple pie.

The media have obviously decided they dislike her because they are not playing the game, and they are playing up how 'wonderful' Kate is in comparison. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle but it just surprises me how many people have actually swallowed the media's vitriol.

I literally couldn't give an eff- they are two people that have moved away from their family because they have differences with them and want to do things their own way- wait.. doesn't that just sound like some version of most of us?

Fluffy, you can indeed infer a lot from behaviour.

But you really need to be a fly-on-the-wall to appreciate what she says (or does?) to achieve those behaviours.

Cockpit's point is correct. W+K beat them to it by having Diana as one of Charlotte's names, so I don't think there will be much mileage for team Hazza in trying to exploit that link.

it just surprises me how many people have actually swallowed the media's vitriol.

I don't think they have.  My view is certainly based on my own personal assessment of their actions and I suspect the vast majority are the same.  If you think they, and especially Meghan, are anything other than deeply cynical chancers manipulating their way to A-list billionare celebrity status, then I think you are very naive.

In which case, how are they different from any other celebrity/ rich person? I don't doubt that they want to be ricccchhhhhhh rather than hiding away in Canada having a nice private life as they could have done if they hated the media so much, but being so anti them when that's literally what the majority of famous people do. They won't be the first or last people to use their status to amass more (unnecessary) wealth.

I mean I get it, it's some sort of of egotistical bullshit but I am not sure if they are any better or worse than many other famous people and so I am not sure why they are held to a different standard. LITERALLY EVERYONE IS AN ARSEHOLE, ROYAL OR NOT.

giving your child a name based on a proper name but with a phoneitc spelling derived from a childs speech impediment is a massive bellend move

weffweppad

I don't disagree to a point, but I do think their dishonesty about who they are, their motives and messages to the world, and the way they have been willing to leverage off their publically granted privileges and harm other public figures, particularly family, to achieve their goals has been exceptional.

I mean, imagine absolutely trashing the royal family for money and fame, and then having the gall, and obvious contempt for the Queen, to use while she is still alive her personal life-long nickname for your daughter as if there is a warm, close, caring personal relationship.  The contempt they have for her feelings is breathtaking.  It's being reported that they are even lying about asking the queen's permission first to make it look like its ok.  We should probably wait and see on that as its only just come up, but for the palace to issue a denial makes it pretty clear how the Queen feels about it.

Whilst accepting that Harry may not be the sharpest tool in the box, they must be commended for adding a bit of spice to the soap opera that is the Royal Family.

They really do seem to wind up the right people which is a bonus whilst its to hard to feel sorry for them given the level of privilege they have. It is very much their choice to remain in the public eye doing these interviews etc so they have to accept the consequences of celeb life.

I agree T Pot. It is pretty funny watching people get worked up about a young couple they do not personally know naming their child in a way that might upset granny. Imagine giving a fvck about this stuff.

She is our monarch. I presume some of us would fight to the death to save her. It is very rude to use that name. However I am sure the Queen wants all the family to get on as we all do in all families so hopefully it will blow over, particularly if they all stop talking to the press at all ever.

On saints names I think that is a rule. My 5 children have names from the old testatment. My siblings and I and our parents that Christian names and my grandchildren. Although there are vast numbers of saints so it is not hard to comply.

I think the first child Archie Harrison does not but was baptised Church of England and the C of E have a legal obligation in the UK to baptised just about anyone who asks even if called Kylie Apple.

So, we had the announcement of the name Lilibet;

followed by the Beeb/Palace claiming the Queen wasn't consulted about it;

followed by the counterclaim by H&M's lawyers that her Maj was indeed asked...

Whichever "team" you are on in all this farce, nobody is exactly covering themselves in glory here.

What can one do to get this feckless shower and their family squabbles off the news every day, or at least confined to whatever replaced the Jeremy Kyle Show?

Giving a child a nickname or short form as the actual name is so naff. The authorities issuing the birth certificate and other IDs should just correct the name without discussion in such cases.
