It is international pronouns day

The reason this matters?
"I feel so validated when people use my correct pronouns"

YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO FEEL VALIDATED

What surprises me is that despite the (correct in my view) suggestion that gender is an analogue spectrum, with infinite gradations, there hasn’t yet been a proliferation of interesting new programmes. It’s still basically him, her or it, or “them” which is really clunky. Can we get some linguistic innovation going in this sphere?

I think I've finally found an argument in favour of foreign languages with feminine and masculine nouns. Yes it's a pain to need to know whether a table or a shoe or toilet paper is masculine or feminine, but on the other hand, they are not having this debate.

The answer to this is that, I suspect, forced linguistic innovation  (particularly when it comes to grammar rather than merely new vocabulary) is always going to be clunky, as opposed to natural linguistic evolution which happens slowly and organically.

I am quite happy to refer to people by the pronoun they prefer because it costs me absolutely nothing  and hopefully makes them feel more comfortable.

Also I instinctively distrust moral panics and am always strongly inclined to support whatever issue people are panicking about.

anyone who makes a big deal about being called something other than how an average person might interpret them is a dick

I am not going to encourage them to feel empowered in their dickishness

My (admittedly limited) experience with it is someone who had been very unhappy in their identity, and was tremendously brave to actually stand up in front of their coworkers and ask for it.

It basically involves throwing your innermost self to the wolves you work with, in full knowledge that a lot of them may just think "what a khunt". You think that's easy or done lightly? I am happy to accede to the wishes of anyone with the guts to do that.
