Had to go in to Nat west today and the queues were ridiculous. People transferring money from one account to another, withdrawal of small amounts of cash over the counter, etc , etc . Bankers trying to persuade young and old of the benefits of internet and mobile banking, but they were having none of it.
i was in the queue for 45 minutes even though there were at least 12 staff on the floor . Hasn’t worked has it , will it ever ?

Of course it's worked! You DON'T SEE all the transactions NOT happening at the bank, but OF COURSE the banks have de-staffed and sold off branches to the extend that the in-person experience is just as shit as before when you are forced to go there.
I swear to God I nearly wept tears of joy when I realised I could pay in cheques with my Barclays app. Best thing since Polio was eradicated.

yup. Upper Street used to have two NatWest branches. Now it has one.

I think it's worked too well. So many branches have closed - that's why you were in a 45 minute queue.
I go to the bank around once a year now. I do everything else on an app.

Pensioners who used banks at peak times should be gassed like badgers.

Well I bank with RBS and they have just about closed all branches, it is only in the last few weeks they have integrated systems so you can do stuff at bay west branches.
my account was blocked and despite having passed security on the phone I was forced to enter in to branch and spend 1 hour there

Barclays app is brilliant, and as I say - pay in cheques by taking a photo.

Yeah I may move back to Barclays. RBS requires so many PIN numbers and passwords to log on to mobile banking it’s insane. They are apparently looking into it as they have for the last year!

Strangely you only need one pin number on the RBS smartphone app

When you call them you need PIN number, 10 digit customer number, and x and y characters from a password..,

One time I used the machine to pay in a cheque, the money cleared and then a day later mysteriously disappeared, took 10 days to sort out. I have refused to use the machine since then.
My altzheimerish step$um banks at tsb, the staff know her (and me) and although I do have an Internet access for her account, to lose the branch would mean yet another loss of independence for her. I have gone off them a bit recently, problem with an isa transfer, but that was Internet!! Not the branch. And we have to stay with them, only remaining bank in her town now.

NatWest (rbs) app is quite good
hopefully all the branches can be converted and play a small part in solving the housing crisis :)

Dice man , the banks make a fortune with cheques. I write one , my account gets debited 24 hours later and the recipient receives funds 7 days later, where do you think the cash sits in the interim .!”?
all the closed branches will become all bar ones , dear gods

Very interesting R4 documentary on the downsides of a cashless society. Would hit the poor hardest.

I seem to collect current accounts but use Monzo as my spends/black ops account. It’s really good.
I have not been into a bank since getting married I don’t think.

As an aside, when tf can we start getting cash out using contactless? That would be great. I don’t want my balance, I don’t want a receipt, I don’t have any additional requirements, I want my effing money quickly you ladyparts.

I have been to the actual, physical bank twice in the last five years.
All done by apps and interwebby thingy now.
Have to say I don't miss it, although the staff in the few remaining branches are much better than the average bank-branch droid used to be.
