Hunt breaks cover

Heh

Britain has spent decades deriding the EU as being full of career bureaucrats and lawyers, but has been torn a new one because its own parliament is full of jumped up rotary clubbers whose highest  qualification for government appears to be failing to run the tombola at their village fete.

After this is all over, we deffo need better MPs.

Maybe include some basic prequalifications in the selection process to get rid of all the gobby, ignorant loudmouths.

That won’t leave many runners tbh

And society needs to accept that it is those who come forward and do stuff who are in the ring, it is simply not enough to sit back and moan that everything one doesn’t like is “their “ fault ffs.

You could argue that Starmer's experience is directly relevant to politics but even he had the self-awareness of his own inexperience (e.g. declining to stand as Labour leader a couple of years ago because of his lack of political experience)

It's interesting - I have two ex-colleagues who are both now Tory MPs. One of them , Charles Walker, was always lovely and very bright and very polticially experienced. The other is Anne-Marie Morris, who is one of the most cretinous people I have ever met and I was gobsmacked she ever became an MP.

Ditto McVey, who I worked with a bit in her media days and was always an idiot.

Starmer is plainly playing a long game and knew he needed more commons experience, which he now has ofc.

The point is he’s run stuff, admittedly public sector shitshows, whereas the mcveys and leadsom haven’t even done what their CVs say.

Seriously, anyone who’s run a moderately complicated deal would have grasped the potholes of Brexit better than these jokers.

I might be tempted to vote Labour for the first time ever if he were leader. There's an awful lot of dry rot in the party though. Corbyn, Abbott, Hoey, Angela fooking Rayner.

I would vote labour if starmer was its leader. Bring back David laws...

to be an MP one should have at at least 5 years work experience post 18. Anything, dr , postman, lawyer, architect, or builder. Agree?

Why would any sane person want to be a politician. You have the Eton / Oxbridge / Westminster types, then the younger zealots of various political hues. Next to zero business experience most of them.

We trust them to negotiate with anyone?

no I don't watch QT as it makes me shouty

just wondered why she was singled out over others. Is she really dimwitted or just finds it hard to hold her own among more educated/eloquent people?

She's really dim-witted. She talks like Alice from the Vicar of Dibley, usually about how she totally accepts that Brexit in any form will be bad for the country but oh dear nothing can be done about that now, except vote for Labour in the general election that isn't happening so that they can get a unicorn deal that isn't available.

yes but tbf most Labour MPs are like that at the moment as they haven't got any actual policies.

just surprised that the way she speaks seems to be a cause for derision.

Part of the reason for the sharp decline in numbers of children studying modern languages is because in the late 90s/early 2000s there was a massive shortage of MFL teachers. So the Blair government went on a massive recruitment drive to get more people to study foreign languages at university and then train as teachers. After a few years this policy had failed to make much of a dent in the number of vacancies, so they then decided to make languages optional after the age of 14, with the result that a huge majority of 14 year olds immediately chose not to take a language at GCSE level.

Of course, what they should have done was go on a massive recruitment drive to hire MFL teachers from abroad, since you don't have to wait years to get them trained up, and you get native speakers. But hey ho.

I was going to do a prolif of this entitled "aunt breaks Hover", but I couldn't be arsed.  Plus it reminded me of the best ever Viz one-off cartoon strip, called "Jump-jet Fanny and her Hawker-Siddley twot".   Inspired.

that's fine, Leadsom says we only need a couple of extra weeks to wrap things up.

Andrea Leadsom makes me literally rage.  She is too thick to function.

One of the problems re all these crap MPs is that no-one calls them out on their idiotic pronouncements. There are no consequences (for them) for being stupid and/or telling lies.

agreed re loathesome obvs, but she was elected. In the shires. She’s got money. People like her think they were born to govern and the great British public has yet to rise up to disabuse them of that conviction.

I think my real issue with politics in recent years is the number of people convinced “it couldn’t happen here”, with blithe confidence that the great British public couldn’t surely act so stupidly. People who’ve always thought they were aligned with the majority view, despite having very little in common with the common man.

Theyve been well and truly pwned.

But it’s time to stop now.
